Job summary

UNC REX Healthcare in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support pharmacists by reviewing, compounding and dispensing medications under supervision. The role includes patient interactions, inventory control, and contributing to quality and regulatory operations.

Qualifications

• Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred.
• Current enrollment in a PharmD program if working as a registered pharmacy intern with NC Board of Pharmacy.
• Registration as a technician with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
• CPhT or ExCPT certification unless enrolled; waiver during PharmD program.
• Prior pharmacy technician experience preferred.
• Must meet licensure and certification requirements as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Compounds and prepares medications (sterile, oral, topical, controlled substances) under pharmacist supervision.
• Delivers medications to patient care areas and returns unused meds to the pharmacy.
• Documents pharmaceutical activities and patient billing using automated and paper systems; ensure data accuracy.
• Responds to customer requests for pharmacy services and drug information.
• Operates automated dispensing technology to supply meds per orders.
• Orders, receives, restocks, and rotates inventory; manage expiration dates.
• Assists with training new employees in job-specific functions.
• Contributes to process improvement projects; participates in regulatory inspections as required.

Summary: The Certified Technician provides support to the pharmacist by reviewing, compounding and dispensing medications. All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.

This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $1500 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment.

Responsibilities:

• Compounds and/or prepares medications (sterile products, oral, topical, controlled substances, etc.) including high-risk medication processes as defined by the entity, as authorized by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
• Delivers exchanges medications to the respective patient area and returns unused medications to the pharmacy.
• Documents pharmaceutical activities including patient billing for medications and equipment, quality control requirements, etc. using automated and paper systems. Ensures accuracy of data.
• Responds to and triages requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy services such as medication delivery, drug information, etc.
• Operates and supports automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for individual patients, according to pharmacist and physician orders.
• Orders, receives, restocks, and rotates inventory, and completes expiration date management.
• Assists with training of new employees, educating them in job-specific functions.
• Contributes to process improvement projects.
• Completes regulatory compliance inspection of medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories, USP797 and other regulatory documentation as required.

Education Requirements: None required as long as other position qualifications are met. Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred. Current enrollment in PharmD program if working as a registered pharmacy intern with NC Board of Pharmacy.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: Registration as a technician with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program. If currently enrolled, an NCBOP Pharmacy Intern registration may be accepted.

CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program; if enrolled, this can be waived for the duration of the PharmD program.

Professional Experience Requirements: Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.
