Responsibilities

• Reports on expected time of completion of work, maintains records of work accomplishments, time expended and prepares reports as requested.
• Collaborates with the Chief of Pharmacy in performance evaluation of team members including work accomplishments, problems, progress in mastering tasks and work processes, individual and team training needs.
• Researches, learns and applies qualitative/quantitative methods to identify, assess, analyze and improve team effectiveness, efficiency and work products.
• Keeps employees informed of procedures, policies, and directives.
• Coordinates with the team on assignments, projects, deadlines and time frames for completion.
• Distributes and balances workload among employees, ensuring timely accomplishment of the assigned workload.
• Instructs employees in specific tasks and manages day‑to‑day inpatient pharmacy operations with supervision of pharmacists, technicians and support staff.
• Reviews leave requests and performs annual performance reviews per request of Chief of Pharmacy.
• Ensures compliance with federal, state and tribal laws pertaining to pharmacy services, including DEA, USP, CMS and other agencies.
• Provides patient medication counseling and teaching upon discharge from hospital.
• Reconciles patient medication records at admission and discharge to ensure completeness.
• Provides technical support for BCMA, EHR and CPOE systems.

Essential Duties, Functions And Responsibilities

• Coordinates with the team on assignments, projects, problem areas to be solved, actionable events, milestones, program issues under review, deadlines and time frames for completion.
• Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow. Ensures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload.
• Instructs employees in specific tasks, job techniques, and ensures all competencies are completed and documented. Manages day‐to‐day inpatient pharmacy operations with supervision of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support staff.
• Reviews and approves leave requests and perform annual performance reviews per request of Chief of Pharmacy.
• Assists Chief of Pharmacy in preparation of fiscal year budget including forecast of expenditures for equipment preventive maintenance contracts, equipment replacement/upgrades, pharmacy staff and miscellaneous pharmaceutical related device and storage components.
• Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and tribal laws and regulations pertaining to pharmacy services, including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, United States Pharmacopeia, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) and other regulatory agencies.
• Reviews inpatient pharmacy-related policy annually and is responsible for policy maintenance and/or development as related to pharmaceutical services facility wide.
• Evaluates the impact of pharmacy services through a planned program of quality assurance that meets the standards of CMS.
• Participates in pharmacy and hospital administrative meetings as assigned.
• Serves as Acting Chief of Pharmacy Services when delegated.
• Performs inpatient pharmacy functions for the full range of pharmaceuticals provided in the medical facility that require special handling.
• Reviews medication records, history and physicals, inpatient progress notes, labs and additional information pertinent to patient care for accurateness, efficacy, potential for drug interactions, potential for adverse reactions, appropriateness and timeliness of treatment for patients admitted for care.
• Evaluates and interprets culture and sensitivity reports, recommends appropriate antibiotics and participates in antimicrobial stewardship.
• Provides patient medication counseling and teaching upon discharge from hospital.
• Compounds (or oversees compounding) of intravenous medications for use facility‐wide.
• Reviews for appropriateness of intravenous medication; correct dosing, compounding and labeling including rate and concentration. Reviews for compatibility with additionally ordered intravenous admixtures when needed.
• Serves as therapeutic consultant and source of drug information for medical staff and nursing.
• Reconciles patient medication records at admission and upon discharge to ensure completeness of medication list.
• Provide technical support for bar‐code medication administration (BCMA) program and equipment as well as electronic health record (EHR) and computerized physician order entry (CPOE).
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

• Five (5) years of inpatient pharmacy experience and one (1) year supervisory experience in an inpatient pharmacy.

Education

• Completion of a PharmD Program from an accredited college or university.
• Must maintain an active and unrestricted Pharmacy License in any U.S. State or Territory by completing necessary Board of Pharmacy requirements for the respective state of licensing.
