Job summary

Boys Town in Omaha, NE seeks an Inpatient Pharmacist to ensure safe, accurate use of medications and evaluate orders for dosing and contraindications. You will participate in medication ordering, preparation, dispensing, and outcome assessment.

Part-time schedule includes 20 hours weekly with day and evening shifts and holiday coverage. Candidates must be NE-licensed and BLS certified within 90 days.

  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Improve patient care by managing drug therapy for the patient population served.
  • Review medications and collaborate with the healthcare team for appropriate management.
  • Evaluate medication selection, dosing, route, frequency, cost effectiveness and duration.
  • Evaluate orders for drug interactions, allergies, diseases, labs and food interactions.
  • Assess medication profiles for therapeutic duplications.
  • Prepare and dispense medication accurately and safely.
  • Supervise supportive pharmacy personnel on shift.
  • Provide clinical pharmacy services through consultations and monitoring.
  • Detect and report adverse drug events and medication errors.
  • Counsel patients, families, and staff on medications.
  • Participate in medication reconciliation and supply chain management.
  • Assist with drug shortages and inventory management.
  • Cover technician duties on shifts when needed and complete required trainings.

Job Summary:

In a career as an Inpatient Pharmacist, you join us in providing life-changing care to patients from across the region. In this role, you will ensure safe, accurate and appropriate use of medications. Evaluate prescribers' orders for dosing, allergies and contraindications. Participate in medication ordering, preparation, dispensing, and outcome assessment.

Schedule:

Part-Time; 20 hours a week, Day shifts are 6:00 AM-4:30 PM and evening shifts are 11:30 AM-10:00 PM. Every fourth weekend from 7:00 AM-7:00 PM. Holiday requirement includes one minor and one major holiday.

Major Responsibilities & Duties:
  • Improves patient care by managing drug therapy according to the patient population served.
  • Reviews medications and collaborates with healthcare team to ensure appropriate medication management.
  • Evaluates medication selection, dosage, route, frequency, cost effectiveness, and duration of therapy.
  • Evaluates orders for drug interactions (drug-drug, allergy, drug-disease, drug-lab and drug-food).
  • Evaluates the medication profile for therapeutic duplications.
  • Prepares and dispenses medication in a manner that ensures accuracy, safety, regulatory adherence, quality and integrity of the drug product in a timely manner.
  • Supervises the work of supportive pharmacy personnel.
  • Provides clinical pharmacy services through consultations, pharmacokinetic monitoring, and clinical intervention tracking.
  • Detects, monitors, and reports adverse drug events and medication errors.
  • Provides medication counseling and education to patients, families, and front-line staff.
  • Participates in the medication reconciliation process.
  • Supports drug purchaser in managing drug shortages and medication supply chain.
  • Tracks and monitors controlled drug discrepancies and medication overrides.
  • Carries out technician responsibilities (automated dispensing cabinet stocking, compounding, etc.) on shifts when support staff are unavailable.
  • Participates in mandatory in-services and/or CE programs as mandated by Boys Town and the State of Nebraska. Completes all required trainings and pharmacy specific competencies in a timely matter.
  • Actively promotes and supports the Boys Town Mission. Fosters a healthy relationship between the department of pharmacy and the hospital. Fosters a healthy relationship within the department of pharmacy.
  • Provides patient care and education according to the patient population served.
Required Qualifications:
  • A registered pharmacist who is a graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy with a current Nebraska state license required.
  • BLS certified within 90 days of transfer or hire required.
