Job summary

Seattle Children’s in Seattle, WA is seeking a Per Diem Pediatric Mental Health Specialist to join the Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU). You will work directly with children and adolescents, guiding them through scheduled activities and skills groups in a fast-paced inpatient setting.

This role emphasizes de-escalation, rapport-building and problem-solving skills, with a 0.9 FTE workload (72 hours per biweekly pay period) and shifts including days, evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• BA or BS in psychosocial related field or equivalent education.
• Registration as a Nursing Assistant in Washington State within 6 months.
• Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Safety Care certification due within 3 months and annually thereafter.
• Ukeru training due within 3 months and annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Coaches for patients and guides them through scheduled activities, including skills groups.
• Promotes healthy problem-solving, social, and coping skills appropriate for each age group.
• Works with complex and acute psychiatric patients in a fast-paced environment to promote safety and therapeutic care.
• Operates in the 41-bed PBMU unit with Child, Adolescent, and Biobehavioral Inpatient Programs.
• Maintains a 0.9 FTE (72 hours per biweekly pay period) schedule, including day/evening/weekend shifts.
