Job summary

The Nursing Assistant- Inpatient Specialty Care position is located within the Medical/Surgical Unit at the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System. The Nursing Assistant provides coverage to clinical areas and supports holistic care through collaboration with the healthcare team.

Key duties include nursing care with geriatric/medical patients, vital signs, specimen collection, ADLs, glucose monitoring, and timely reporting.

Qualifications

• Basic nursing assistant duties including patient care and observations.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients with geriatrics, psychiatric, and/or medical problems, including vital signs, brace/splint application, specimen collection, activities of daily living, and glucose monitoring.
• Observe, report, and record patient condition; institute emergency measures; assist in resuscitation procedures.
• Interpret information to identify age-specific needs; respond to concerns; check equipment and supplies are stocked.
• Manage patient behavior; enter patient condition in chart; mentor other Nursing Assistants; orient healthcare team members.
• Prepare, ambulate, transport, and position patients; follow defined shifts and schedules; understand shift differentials and premium pays.
