We are seeking a nurse practitioner or physician assistant to function independently as an Inpatient Acute Care Advanced Practice Provider within our established General Surgery/Integrated Surgery department at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center. Our team of general surgeons and advanced practice providers have extensive experience managing a broad spectrum of urgent and non-urgent general surgical conditions. We employ a multidisciplinary, integrated approach, collaborating with disciplines such as colorectal, breast, thoracic, plastic, bariatric, transplant, oncology, radiology, and pathology. This approach ensures high-quality care that is unmatched in our service area and aligns with our surgeons’ philosophy of care.
New graduates with acute-care, post-acute, and/or general surgery nursing backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Preference is given to nurse practitioners with ACNP certification; FNPs are not eligible for this role. The ideal candidate demonstrates thorough documentation skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work autonomously while maintaining regular communication with administrative and provider support. Participation in daily patient care review meetings with surgeons and weekly multidisciplinary huddles is expected. Dedicated office space is available in the professional building, directly connected to the hospital.
The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, with an 8-hour workday, totaling 1.0 FTE. This role excludes holidays, weekends, after-hours, or call responsibilities.
