Job summary

micro1 is seeking an Inpatient Medical Coder on a remote contract basis in the United States. You will review inpatient records for accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, assess DRG implications, and ensure documentation supports coding decisions.

Qualifications

• Active coding certification such as CIC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT or another AHIMA or AAPC credential.
• Inpatient ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding experience, including DRG, MCC/CC, and POA concepts.
• Access to current ICD-10 code sets and guidelines; familiarity with AHA Coding Clinic.
• Currently working in inpatient coding, clinical documentation improvement, or a related role.
• Availability of at least 10 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Review inpatient medical records to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding per guidelines.
• Determine principal and secondary diagnoses for full admission and assess MCCs, CCs, and procedures affecting DRG assignment.
• Review clinical documentation for accuracy; flag opportunities for provider queries.
• Evaluate AI-generated notes and code suggestions against real-world documentation and inpatient standards.
• Identify and resolve coding discrepancies to protect data integrity.
• Enter and validate AI-generated patient information in inpatient records and encoder systems.

micro1 is engaging Inpatient Medical Coders to contribute to a valued project focused on enhancing inpatient clinical coding accuracy and data quality. In this role, you’ll apply your facility coding expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input.

Scope of Work

• Review inpatient medical records to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding in line with current guidelines.
• Determine the principal and secondary diagnoses for the full admission and assess how MCCs, CCs, and procedures affect DRG assignment.
• Review clinical documentation for accuracy and completeness, and flag opportunities for provider queries.
• Evaluate AI-generated clinical notes, summaries, and code suggestions against real-world documentation and inpatient coding standards.
• Identify and resolve diagnosis and procedure coding discrepancies to protect data integrity.
• Enter and validate AI-generated patient information in inpatient medical record and encoder systems.
