Job description

JOB PURPOSE:
Performs a variety of patient care activities in accordance with established standards and practice. Emphasizes health promotion as well as acute and chronic disease management. Supports physicians by collecting and documenting data, conducting diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering laboratory studies and consultations, and providing direct patient care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating medical and surgical problems; records data and coordinates research as needed.
  2. Takes patient histories, conducts physical examinations, and maintains records; writes progress notes and develops therapeutic relationships with patients.
  3. Orders and schedules laboratory and diagnostic procedures; explains procedures to patients and obtains consent.
  4. Performs therapeutic procedures such as cast application, wound suturing, and dressing changes; monitors patient progress and reports to supervising physicians.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency with electronic medical records applications.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Understanding of legal issues affecting practice.
  • Leadership and team-building abilities.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and solve practical problems.
  • Ability to interpret various instructions and documentation.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • ACLS certification and ability to interpret PFTs, CXRs, and CT scans of the chest.
  • Participation in multidisciplinary rounds, committees, journal clubs, and grand rounds.
  • Maintain CME hours and state licensure.
  • For Pulmonary Inpatient role: perform daily rounds, manage new consults, admissions, discharges, and participate in end-of-life care discussions.
  • For Samsky APP role: assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients with advanced heart failure, LVAD, and transplant in outpatient and inpatient settings.

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited nursing school with a current Georgia license for Advanced Practice Nursing and a Master's degree in Nursing, OR graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with a current Georgia license.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: None required.

MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Licensed Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Nurse (ACNP/FNP) in Georgia, NCCPA certification for PAs, BLS, and ACLS.
