Job summary

Baptist Health is hiring an Inpatient Hospital Coder to join our Appeals & Denials Department in a remote capacity for approved states. The role codes inpatient accounts using ICD-10-CM/PCS, reviews CPT coding for observations, and submits abstracts for billing with accuracy and timeliness.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in acute care coding, AHIMA certifications (RHIT/RHIA/CCS), and excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills. Primary location is Jacksonville metro area.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• RHIT (AHIMA) or RHIA (AHIMA) or CCS (AHIMA) required.
• 3-5 years experience in acute care setting required.
• 3-5 years coding knowledge required.

Responsibilities

• Identify and assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient accounts to meet state and federal requirements.
• Know CPT coding classification, edit resolution, and CPT-4 codes on Observation accounts when applicable.
• Verify and submit abstracted information to billing for claim submission.
• Complete coding on 100% of discharged accounts daily to maintain Coding AR goals.
• Assist with ACHA, DNFB and post-bill error reports and denials as applicable.
• Collaborate with Management, CDI and HIM on coding documentation.
• Mentor Coders, CDI and staff and provide auditing/training support.
• Demonstrate critical thinking, clear communication, decisive judgment, and ability to work independently.
• Maintain focus, accuracy, and strong time management; use encoder and EHR.

Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville is currently hiring for a Full-time Inpatient Hospital Coder to join our Appeals & Denials Department at Baptist Metro Square!

The Inpatient Hospital Coder Responsibilities Include

• This role is responsible for correctly identifying and assigning diagnosis and procedure codes using the ICD-10-CM/PCS Classification System to each patient's account for optimization in accordance with State and Federal requirements on Inpatient accounts.
• Be knowledgeable of CPT coding classification, edit resolution and assigning CPT -4 codes on Observation accounts when applicable.
• Verifies and submits abstracted information to the billing system for claim submission.
• Must efficiently complete this activity for 100% of discharged accounts daily to maintain the Coding A/R goals set forth.
• Works ACHA, DNFB and Post Bill Error reports, such as A/B rebills, Claim Edits and Denials when applicable.
• Advises and coordinates with Management, CDI and HIM on coding documentation.
• Provides support to Coders, CDI and other staff via mentorship, and possess auditing and training skills.
• Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be focused and detailed oriented and have effective time management skills.
• Proficient in basic computer skills and able to utilize a computerized encoder and EHR.

Education And Certification Requirements

• High School Diploma Required
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - AHIMA or
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - AHIMA or
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - AHIMA Required

Experience Requirements

• 3-5 Years Experience in an Acute Care Setting Required
• 3- 5 Years Coding Knowledge Required
• 3-5 Years Experience working in an Acute Care setting Required
