Job summary

Baptist Health's Jacksonville system is hiring a Full-time Inpatient Hospital Coder to join the Appeals & Denials Department at Baptist Metro Square. The coder will assign diagnoses and procedures per ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding rules for accurate inpatient accounts.

Requires RHIT/RHIA/CCS certification and 3–5 years acute care coding experience. Proficiency with EHR and encoder tools, strong communication, mentorship, and adherence to coding deadlines are essential.

Qualifications

• RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification required by AHIMA.
• 3–5 years of acute care coding experience.
• Proficient in ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4 coding.
• Experience with healthcare data abstracts and billing.
• Strong attention to detail and time management.

Responsibilities

• Identify and assign diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM/PCS.
• Apply CPT-4 coding on Observation accounts when applicable.
• Verify and submit abstracted information to billing systems.
• Maintain coding accuracy to support A/R goals.
• Collaborate with CDI, HIM, and management; mentor staff as needed.
• Use encoder and EHR efficiently; demonstrate strong communication.
