Job Description Summary

Utilize evidence-based nutrition care to assess and reassess patient nutrition risk and identify nutrition needs. Develop parental and enteral feeding regimes. Create and implement nutrition protocols. Participate in quality improvement initiatives/committees. Provide nutrition counseling to patients and families as warranted. Participate in multidisciplinary interaction and education.

Responsibilities And Duties
  • Perform nutrition assessments using age-appropriate standards, validated assessment tools, and nutrition-focused physical assessments, including documentation of nutrition-related diagnoses when indicated.
  • Demonstrate proficiency according to Standards of Practice and Professional Performance for Registered Dietitian Nutritionists while providing age-appropriate care plans.
  • Coordinate nutrition therapy with physicians and other healthcare professionals; participate in multidisciplinary rounds and care planning.
  • Plan, implement, and adapt nutritional care plans to meet physician orders, age, and disease-specific needs, including appropriate feeding routes and nutrition prescriptions.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient responses to medical nutrition therapy, adjusting plans as needed based on specific goals.
  • Provide education to patients, families, and caregivers on nutritional therapy, tailoring methods to learning styles and communication needs.
  • Educate and train interdisciplinary team members, students, and interns, fostering teamwork and implementing innovative programs for optimal outcomes.
  • Support quality improvement, research, and outcome studies; identify opportunities for waste reduction and service enhancement.
  • Accurately document all activities, utilizing electronic medical records appropriately.
  • Stay current with research developments and incorporate new practices into programs and services.
  • Assist in developing and revising department tools, training materials, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in evaluating clinical nutrition products and equipment.
  • Comply with all regulatory standards, including HIPAA, and uphold patient confidentiality and rights policies.
  • Attend departmental meetings, team development sessions, and professional programs as appropriate.
  • Serve as an active member of multidisciplinary teams and committees.
  • Ensure compliance with national program standards for certified and recognized programs.
  • Review current research and practice recommendations, modifying practices as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

80%: Direct patient care activities (e.g., nutrition assessment, multidisciplinary rounds)

20%: Indirect activities (e.g., record keeping, team education)

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree (Required); Ohio Board of Dietetics Licensure (OBDL); Ohio Limited Permit (OHLP); Registered Dietitian (RD) certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
