Description:

Accurately codes inpatient records for the classification of all diseases, injuries, procedures, and operations using the ICD-10-CM/PCS coding system. Ensures compliance with coding rules and regulations according to regulatory agencies (CMS, OIG). Works as part of a team to meet departmental and AR goals. Abstracts prescribed data elements from medical records.

Degrees:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent

Licenses & Certifications:

• Must have AHIMA CCS or RHIT
• AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist
• AHIMA Registered Health Information Technician

Additional Qualifications:

• Required coding certification
• If not CCS or RHIT certified upon hire, must obtain within 2 years
• Knowledge and thorough understanding of encoder systems, Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS), DRG/MSDRGs, and National and Local Coverage Determinations (NCD and LCD policies)
• Competency in Word and Excel
• Effective communication skills with coworkers, management, and physicians
