Job Description
Job Purpose & Position Overview

The Inpatient Clinical Nurse possesses the ability to objectively assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care as a licensed Registered Nurse. The Registered Nurse also works in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary medical team focused on providing patient centered care by identification of psycho-social needs, continuity of care related to disease prevention and chronic disease management and provides patient education to promote Health Literacy.

Specific Job Duties / Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate the WCHS core mission, vision and values
  • To function as primary care Nurse, and assume responsibility of charge nurse duties in order to provide optimal quality of patient care
  • Completes comprehensive initial admission assessment
  • Creates Nursing Care plan based on identified or remarkable initial objective assessment
  • Provides interventions as ordered by the Medical Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant
  • Evaluates patient response to intervention and promptly notifies Medical Provider of patient condition whenever necessary
  • Generates consults to appropriate discipline based on initial admission assessment findings
  • Assists with Discharge planning
  • Provides Discharge Instructions related to disease process and home management, and follow-up appointments with their Primary Care Provider to ensure continuity of care
  • Demonstrates ability to float to area of need to meet patient demand (Outpatient, Emergency Room) and/or assists with Emergency Response Preparedness operations
  • Makes decisions in matters of significance
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Skills
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska or multi state licensure in a nurse licensure compact state.
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing required. Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing preferred.

  • Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Physical Requirements
  • Normal to heavy work which includes the ability to lift up to 20-50 lbs. Lifting and/or transferring of patients may involve heavy lifting.
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office or medical equipment.
  • Manual dexterity with cooperatively free range of motion of all extremities including neck, fingers, hands, wrists, elbows, arms, shoulders, waist, legs, hips, knee joints, ankles, and feet is required.

Language Requirements
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
