Job Purpose & Position Overview

The Outpatient Clinical Nurse, RN is responsible for objectively assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care in coordination with a multidisciplinary team to provide “patient centered” care. The Registered Nurse will assist in the ongoing management of the patient based on identified psycho-social needs, continuity of care, disease prevention, chronic disease management, and provides patient education to promote Health Literacy.

Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate the WCHS core mission, vision and values; respecting tribal beliefs, culture, and traditions
  • Formulate clinical decisions that demonstrate critical thinking to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the patient through collaborative practice with the healthcare team.
  • Completes comprehensive initial assessment and completes documentation accurately and completely in the patient record.
  • Demonstrates expertise in systems assessment, recognition of significant changes in patient condition, establishment of priorities, and nursing interventions.
  • Provides interventions as ordered by the Medical Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant
  • Evaluates patient response to intervention and promptly informs the Medical Provider of patient condition whenever necessary.
  • Promotes the team concept through interpersonal relationships with patients, families, and medical staff and/or other healthcare providers to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care.
  • Demonstrates respect for patients’ rights, privacy, and serves as a patient advocate.
  • Complies with all departmental and organizational policies and procedures in addition to regulatory requirements and participates in corporate/department safety and quality activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Skills:
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nebraska or multi state licensure in a nurse licensure compact state.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
  • Minimum of Associate's Degree in Nursing required. New grads accepted.
  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing preferred.
  • Skilled in practical use of electronic systems for patient care and documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of service and response.
  • Complies with all departmental and organizational policies and procedures in addition to regulatory requirements and participates in corporate/department safety and quality activities.
Physical Requirements:
  • Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.
Cognitive requirements:
  • Reading, writing, calculating
  • Reasoning/Analysis
  • Works with minimal to no supervision
Language Requirements:
  • Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.
  • Utilize effective, appropriate, timely communication skills.
