The Charge Nurse position is an experienced professional role demonstrating clinical, leadership, and interpersonal skill proficiency. The Charge Nurse facilitates and supports the clinical and operational needs of inpatient care areas in partnership with management.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Staffing/Throughput/Access: Leads daily operations supporting safe throughput and access to care. Ensures appropriate staffing based on patient needs, collaborating with leaders and staffing resources using established guidelines. Accurately documents within labor management software to ensure fiscal stewardship.
  2. Team Member Support: Acts as a resource for team members, ensuring adherence to policies and clinical practices. Facilitates access to appropriate care levels, supports clinical/operational escalation, and promotes a calm, productive environment. Supports team members in non-patient care activities such as professional development and practice problem-solving.
  3. Patient Experience: Supports patient experience by addressing team member and patient needs, conducting inpatient rounding, service recovery, and coordinating support services. Engages with team, patients, and visitors to enhance the patient experience. Promotes communication and collaboration among team members and departments.
  4. Environment of Care: Manages the care environment to meet safety and regulatory standards. Facilitates team huddles and visual management tools to promote communication. Supports achievement of local and organizational quality goals using standard work. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Position Details

Compensation Range: $46.08 - $61.00 hourly.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing or enrollment in an accredited BSN/MSN program to be completed within 5 years of hire.
  • Experience: RN Clinician 2 or higher with 6 months on the unit or previous Charge Nurse experience from another organization.
  • Licensure: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Virginia. AHA BLS certification required.
Physical Demands

Requires standing for prolonged periods, frequent movement, bending, and lifting/pushing/pulling 20-50 lbs. May involve exposure to chemicals, blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases. Proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills are essential, along with attention to detail and legibility in writing.
