Base pay range

$16.32/hr - $31.05/hr

Possible $5000 Sign-On Bonus for External Hires!

Remote Coder positions are available in all states except CA and HI.

Danbury Health Systems has a network of hospital and outpatient locations across Connecticut and New York, including Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital, Sharon Hospital, Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center, and Vassar Brothers Medical Center. The network also includes primary and specialty care practices, urgent care offices, and affiliates offering non-acute care services.

Summary

This role involves analyzing and coding complex inpatient records for a healthcare facility. It requires expertise in coding guidelines, coding clinics, MS DRGs, CC/MCC for reimbursement and compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Perform ICD-10-CM/PCS coding to maintain an accurate database with at least 95% accuracy.
  • Apply knowledge of MS DRG and APR DRG assignment, coding guidelines, comorbidity/complication coding, HAC conditions, and POA assignment.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians to clarify diagnoses for accurate DRGs and severity of illness.
  • Code using either 3M 360 encoder or ICD-10-CM/PCS codebook.
  • Mentor and train junior coders.
  • Perform audits as assigned.
  • Understand the impact of coding on revenue cycle and assist in appealing payer denials.
  • Respond to business office questions regarding diagnoses and procedures promptly.
  • Participate in hospital education programs to stay updated on coding changes.
  • Maintain certified coding credentials and comply with certification requirements annually.
  • Fulfill all compliance responsibilities.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • CCS or CIC certification.
  • RHIT or RHIA certification.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience.
  • Training in medical terminology, ICD-10-CM, CPT, and E/M coding.
  • Ability to interpret operative reports, medical orders, and records for accurate coding.
  • Desired coursework in Anatomy and Physiology.
