Base pay range

$50,000.00/yr - $60,000.00/yr

Location: 100% Remote – Candidates must reside outside of Ohio, California, Washington State, North Dakota, and New York

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM CST (flexible based on time zone)

Team Size: 23 CDI Specialists (22 of whom are RNs or NPs)

Position Overview:

Seeking a CDI Manager with a strong foundation in Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) and a clinical background to lead a large, high-functioning, inpatient CDI team. This leadership role focuses on program oversight, provider engagement, performance analysis, and team development, with a strategic eye toward improving documentation accuracy and enhancing financial and quality outcomes.

The successful candidate will bring deep CDI knowledge, leadership experience, and ideally pediatric inpatient experience. They will collaborate closely with a CDI Supervisor (direct report), oversee team performance, and contribute to ongoing program revamps and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a team of 23 advanced CDI specialists covering 4 campuses (ICU/PICU, Women’s Services, Acute Care, Surgical Heme/Onc, Community Centers).
  • Collaborate with a CDI Supervisor who manages daily operations.
  • Lead reporting and analytics review to monitor and guide performance.
  • Respond to escalations, such as mismatches between coding and CDI on final DRGs.
  • Evaluate and refine current workflows and documentation processes in collaboration with leadership.
  • Drive CDI education initiatives for both the CDI team and medical providers.
  • Foster a culture of open communication, feedback, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in program transformation efforts following recent consultant-driven revamp.
  • Guide provider engagement strategies to close documentation gaps, particularly in clinical engagement reviews.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to maintain and improve documentation integrity and compliance.
  • 4+ years of Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) experience
  • At least one of the following licenses/certifications: RN, RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, CCDS, CDIP
  • Team leadership or supervisory experience, preferably within CDI
  • Inpatient CDI background (outpatient experience will not translate well)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pediatric experience strongly preferred
  • Coding certification (e.g., CCDS, CDIP, CCS) in addition to clinical background
  • Familiarity with Epic EHR and 3M CDI software
  • Multi-site or large team CDI management experience

Compensation:

Competitive, commensurate with experience (high $50s to low $60s/hour range)
