Job summary

Inova is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to provide independent assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of medical processes for cardiovascular patients. The role covers inpatient cardiac surgery and post-acute transitions, within a multidisciplinary team pursuing world-class cardiovascular care.

Qualified candidates will have NP/PA credentials for Virginia, BLS, and credentialing ability.

Qualifications

• Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent post-master's certificate for NP.
• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with certification by NCCPA.
• BLS certification required at start.

Responsibilities

• Develops differential diagnosis and plans of care based on data collection and revises based on findings.
• Evaluates and documents patients' response to care and health status.
• Assumes clinical management for critically ill cardiovascular patients with physicians.
• Participates in development and revision of standards for patient populations; integrates evidence-based findings.
• Supports clinical research/data collection and projects for specialty development.
• Provides formal/informal educational programs to improve staff knowledge.
• Work schedule: 3-4 shifts/week, 3-4 nights/month and 1-2 weekends/month.

As an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant), you will exercise independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures, in accordance with the nurse practitioner or physician assistant licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice/Protocol for APPs. Inpatient Cardiac Surgery Job Responsibilities:

• Develops differential diagnosis and plans of care based on data collection and revises based on physiologic and psychosocial findings. Interprets and synthesizes laboratory, imaging, and other pertinent data. Review’s patient plan of care with interdisciplinary team and with the patient and family.
• Evaluates and documents patients' response to care, and evaluates impact of illness on patients' health status, functional status, nutritional status, sleep and rest patterns, family and social relationships, and establishes a health promotion strategy.
• Assumes clinical management for the critically ill cardiovascular patient population in collaboration with physicians in practice.
• Assists in the development and revision of standards for patient populations and integrates evidence-based research findings into clinical practice.
• Participates in clinical research/data collection and assists in projects and planning for continual development of respective specialty.
• Provides formal/informal clinical and professional educational programs to improve staff knowledge.
• Work schedule: 3-4 shifts/week with an expectation of 3-4 nights per month and 1-2 weekends per month.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:Mastersin Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, OR certificate from an education program that is accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing. For physician Assistants, graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
• Experience:No experience required.
• Certification:Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start
• Licensure:Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances)
• Payer Credentialing:Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors and Ability to enrolled as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor
• Medical Staff Credentialing:Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services

Preferred Qualifications:

• One year of APP experience preferred in cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, general surgery, cardiology, or critical care.
