Inpatient (Acute Hospital) Corporate Coding Director (Remote based in US)

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the performance of coding operations and services. Ensures adequate resources and staffing for consistent coverage of engagements. Manages service line performance, as well as engagement, quality, and productivity standards. Interfaces directly with Tenet hospitals at a corporate level and serves as the critical link in managing relationships with national vendor partners. Identifies and develops additional business development opportunities.

Salary range: $120,000 - $155,000. Individual wages are determined based upon qualifications and experience. Calculated based on a full-time position.

Required: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, problem-solving abilities; good knowledge of medical records systems (paper, hybrid, and electronic).
  • Ability to build and maintain team dynamics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in general information technologies; autonomous and self-directed.
  • Implement policies and procedures supporting service provision.
  • High-level knowledge of coding processes and nomenclatures.
  • Excellent organizational skills for efficient workflow.
  • Ability to work independently in a virtual or facility setting, with travel as needed.
  • Manual dexterity to operate computer peripherals.
  • Adherence to AHIMA ethical coding standards and monitoring team compliance.
  • Knowledge of current professional coding certification requirements; promote certification of staff.
  • Support collaboration between coding, CDI, quality, compliance, and medical staff.

Preferred:

  • Leadership experience with large coding teams in complex multi-hospital systems.
  • Competency in coding for IP, OP, ED, and pro-fee services.

Education/Experience

  • At least 7 years of recent HIM or coding leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or relevant field with 10 years of experience.
  • RHIT or RHIA certification required; CCS preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Sitting for extended periods, manual dexterity, occasional standing/walking, reaching, bending, and travel (25-50%).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $120,000-$155,000 annually, with potential bonuses and relocation/sign-on incentives.

  • Ensure coding quality (>95% accuracy), coordinate audits, and implement feedback.

  • Participate in growth activities, develop tactical plans, and monitor progress.

Professional Development

  • Stay current with healthcare standards, attend workshops, and participate in coding updates and seminars.
