Position Summary
This position is responsible for overseeing coding operations and services. The role includes managing staffing and resources to ensure consistent coverage, monitoring service line performance, and maintaining quality, engagement, and productivity standards. The director interfaces directly with Tenet hospitals at the corporate level and manages relationships with national vendor partners. Additionally, the role involves identifying and developing new business opportunities.
Minimum Requirements
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with problem-solving abilities and good knowledge of medical records systems (paper, hybrid, electronic).
- Ability to build and maintain team dynamics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Fluency in general information technologies, with a high degree of autonomy and self-direction.
- Knowledge of coding processes and nomenclatures.
- Excellent organizational skills for efficient workflow management.
- Ability to work independently in a virtual or facility setting, with travel as needed.
- Ability to operate computer peripherals effectively.
- Adherence to AHIMA's ethical coding standards and monitoring of team compliance.
- Knowledge of current professional coding certification requirements and promoting staff certification.
- Support collaboration among coding, CDI, Quality, compliance, and medical staff.
Responsibilities
- Support coding team through educational resources and interface with corporate and facility leadership.
- Ensure adequate staffing and compliance with HR policies and performance standards.
- Assess and improve financial and operational performance through data analysis and performance initiatives.
- Monitor coding quality, coordinate feedback, and ensure compliance with standards.
- Participate in business expansion activities and develop tactical plans and budgets.
- Stay current with healthcare regulations, attend meetings, and participate in coding updates and seminars.
Qualifications
- Required: 7+ years of recent HIM or coding leadership experience; Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field; RHIT or RHIA certification.
- Preferred: Experience managing large coding teams; CCS credential.
Certifications
- Required: Current RHIA or RHIT credential.
- Preferred: Current CCS credential.
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit for extended periods, use computer peripherals, and travel nationally (25-50%).
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $120,000 - $155,000 annually, based on experience and location.
