Job summary

The University of Virginia’s Department of Spanish, Italian and Portuguese invites applications for a Professor of Spanish on the academic general faculty, starting August 10, 2027. The role includes teaching Spanish language and culture courses, directing the Language Program, and contributing to departmental leadership.

The candidate should hold a PhD in Applied Linguistics or a related field, with native or near-native Spanish and English and a record of excellence in teaching and leadership

Qualifications

• PhD required at time of application.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and leadership in language education in U.S. higher education is preferred.
• Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English is required.

Responsibilities

• Teach Spanish language and culture courses (elementary to intermediate) each semester.
• Manage the Spanish Language Program as Language Program Director, including curriculum and syllabi coordination.
• Engage in department service and participate in department leadership.
