Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field.
• Eligible for Virginia licensure with endorsement in Special Education General Curriculum K-12.
• Demonstrates knowledge of teaching principles and methodology.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and spoken.
• Knowledge of curriculum aligned to district and state standards.
• Proficient with personal computers and standard software.
• Understanding of diverse exceptionalities and related curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities.
• Modify and adapt lessons for reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science.
• Instruct students in citizenship and state-mandated subjects.
• Develop lesson plans and provide differentiated instruction to meet student needs.
• Translate lessons into engaging learning experiences to maximize time.
• Establish and maintain classroom behavior standards for a functional learning atmosphere.
• Evaluate student progress and prepare progress reports.
• Communicate with parents through conferences and other channels.
• Collaborate with other staff to assess and support student needs.
• Develop and implement Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
• Participate in curriculum development and staff evaluations.
