Job summary

Mortenson Construction is seeking an Innovation Technician to support development and implementation of new technologies through hands-on technical and administrative work. You will test prototypes, troubleshoot, and collaborate with engineering, site personnel, and suppliers to ensure successful innovation outcomes.

  • Minimum two years experience in a technical role with industrial or construction tools, materials & equipment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management or related degree by summer 2027 preferred.
  • Willing to be mobile / relocate frequently for project assignments.
  • Possess a current driver's license and have access to reliable transportation.
  • Previous internship experience preferred.
  • Strong collaboration, communication and problem-solving skills; leadership demonstrated.
  • Detail-oriented, organized and able to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to innovative solutions.
  • Conduct experiments and analyze data to support innovation initiatives.
  • Assist in the design, development, build and testing of new technologies, equipment and processes.
  • Source and develop parts and service providers to support Innovation projects.
  • Build and test prototypes of new products and processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to innovation projects.
  • Prepare, maintain and update safety, training, inspection, operation, maintenance and technical documentation.
  • Prepare and schedule equipment for transport.
  • Maintain and distribute adequate spare and repair part inventory.
  • Install, service and repair equipment.
  • Train operators on proper equipment inspection, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
  • Monitor and report equipment inspections, conditions, repairs and uptime.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains.
  • Contribute to the development of best practices for innovation.
  • All other duties as assigned.

As a Innovation Technician, you will support the development and implementation of new technologies and processes through hands‑on technical and/or administrative work, testing, prototyping and troubleshooting, while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to ensure successful innovation outcomes.

Additional Information:
  • It is likely and anticipated for Mortenson team members to participate on traveling project assignments throughout their careers. Depending upon the operating group, frequent mobility may be required

Required Qualifications:

The base compensation range for this role is $70,200 - $99,900. This position is eligible for a potential annual bonus. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skill and experience with consideration given to internal equity.
