This position reports to the Director of Parkspass and Innovation Labs and serves as a senior technical member of the software team, setting engineering standards and mentoring junior developers and student interns.

  • Lead the design and development of secure, scalable web and mobile applications supporting recreation passes, reservations, payments, and visitor services.
  • Architect and build application programming interfaces (APIs) and integrations connecting Parkspass systems with payment processors, state systems, and partner agencies.
  • Develop and maintain both front-end and back-end components across the platform.
  • Develop and maintain the inventory mobile and web application for the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services (DABS).
  • Integrate secure applications with merchant and payment services, including transaction processing and reconciliation feeds.
  • Design, implement, and maintain authentication and single sign-on (SSO) capabilities.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards, including code review, testing, security, and documentation practices.
  • Mentor junior developers and student interns and provide technical guidance across projects.
  • Monitor, optimize, and support production systems for performance, reliability, and security.

  • Two years of related internship or job experience required; four or more years of software development experience, or experience working with state or national government agencies, strongly preferred. The total qualifications required are based on a combination of education and work experience. Any experience used to meet the education requirement cannot also be used to meet the work experience requirement.

  • Experience connecting applications to merchant and payment services such as Stripe or Authorize.net.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and services (for example, AWS or Cloudflare), open-source web servers such as Apache or Nginx, and Linux/Unix environments.
  • Knowledge of UI/UX principles and basic prototype design.
  • Understanding of application security, authentication, and single sign-on.
  • Understanding of search engine optimization (SEO) practices for public-facing applications preferred.
  • Understanding of network diagnostics and analytical tools preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects, mentor other developers, and work both independently and as part of a team.
