Amazon Logistics (AMZL) is looking to hire an experienced, innovative, hands-on, and customer-obsessed Sr. Innovation Engineer to lead the application of the Amazon Robotics (AR) System and Material Handling Equipment (MHE) automation into our European Delivery Station Network.
The successful candidate will be a member of the European Amazon Logistics Central Engineering team and will be responsible to define, test, validate and implement various Robotics and Automation systems in the Delivery Stations network in EU region.
This role requires experienced and entrepreneurial minded Engineers with combined robotics, engineering, planning and analytical skills. This individual will own robotics and automation implementation projects end-to-end and will partner with Process Engineering teams, Operations leaders, Facilities and Engineering teams to effectively operate advanced robotics technology across Amazon's last mile network.

Key job responsibilities
  1. Key partner to work closely with the AR Product teams and WW Engineering to drive customer (AMZL) requirements for implementing AR system in EU Delivery Stations network.
  2. Identify process paths to automate based on various factors; labor, cost, safety, performance, etc. working with Process Engineering and Operations partners.
  3. Author business cases to introduce automation to the Delivery Stations network in EU to improve performance.
  4. Define pilot criteria and success metrics to validate proof of concept and performance targets set initially.
  5. Lead AR and MHE automation pilots in EU by measuring success criteria for meeting metrics for productivity, quality and safety.
  6. Collaboration with internal teams to provide technical documentation such as flow diagrams, equipment layouts, installation details, schedules and budgets for new automation systems to understand integration impacts on existing processes and building design.
  7. Support lessons learnt program for new robotics and automation system to understand improvements needed for next generation design iterations.
  8. Work with design and controls teams to detail out integration plans for MHE automation.
  9. Partner with simulation team for validating new ideas and concepts to automate manual process paths.
  10. Part of core team with AR and WW Engineering teams to improve processes and layouts based on field performance data representing EU AMZL network.
  11. Represent AMZL-EU in cross functional teams to work on future technologies; robotics, automation, IoT to seamlessly integrate those into the Delivery Station eco-system.
  12. Part of core group for selection of critical sites in the network to receive automation based on set criteria.
  13. Support commissioning of new AR and MHE automation installations in partnership with field teams.
  14. Support development and implementation of Service and Maintenance concepts for AMZL Field teams.

A day in the life

You will ideate and bring to life new technologies for AMZL. Your day could include activities ranging from working with new vendors on developing concepts for AMZL with automation and robotics technology, to being in the field and learning the challenges that associates face. You would build and validate prototypes in our Innovation Center to enable fast-design iterations. You will demonstrate through simulation and data the actual benefits of the new technologies integration in the field bringing your entrepreneurial and innovative spirit at disposal of the team. You would write a business case and work with stakeholders to build a case for piloting new technology. You could dive deep into understanding how the tech influences AMZL processes and the associate’s lives.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  1. 4+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  2. Experience with prototyping and implementation.
  3. BS in Mechanical Engineering.
  4. SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design, advanced assemblies, complex configuration management.
  5. Hands on experience crafting proof-of-concept models and prototypes.
  6. Thorough understanding and use of principals, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering and ability to apply them to product design.
  7. Organizational skills and the ability to work well with teams.
  8. Experience communicating concepts and writing technical documents.
  9. Experience working in a fast-paced agile environment.
  10. Experience with full lifecycle and proficiency at completing tasks to meet associated milestones.
  11. Experience evaluating design, performance and logistical tradeoffs for hardware systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools.
  2. Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume.
  3. Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
  4. Experience with the project management of technical projects.
  5. Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment.
  6. Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management PLM software and ECO’s.
  7. MS in Mechanical Engineering.
  8. Proficiency with SolidWorks Simulation or Ansys Finite Element Analysis tools.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
