Position Summary
The Innovation Attorney serves as a practice-facing resource for legal technology adoption, generative AI integration, client-facing innovation, and practice improvement. Working closely with attorneys, practice group leadership, and Innovation stakeholders, this role identifies and implements practical solutions that improve legal service delivery, enhance client value, and increase adoption of firm tools and resources. The role requires a practitioner-minded attorney who understands how legal work is performed and can translate technology, process improvement, and innovation concepts into practical guidance for legal teams.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Service Delivery and Client Facing Solutions
  • Leads initiatives that improve the delivery of legal services through process optimization, workflow design, technology enablement, and operational best practices.
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance efficiency, consistency, quality, and client value by evaluating workflows, resource utilization, service delivery models, and market trends.
  • Partners with attorneys and practice teams to develop, implement, and continuously improve processes, tools, and solutions that support effective legal service delivery.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor on practice innovation, process improvement, legal technology, and service delivery strategies.
  • Designs tools, dashboards, reports, portals, and other resources that provide clients and matter teams with greater visibility into matter metrics, data, and insights.
  • Captures and leverages matter, experience, and practice data to improve future service delivery.
  • Supports collaboration solutions for clients, local counsel, and third parties.
  • Identifies opportunities to present technology-enabled or innovation-focused solutions as part of the firm’s client value proposition.
Project and Process Management
  • Manages practice innovation projects from planning through execution, including scoping, workplan development, stakeholder coordination, timeline management, and delivery.
  • Tracks project milestones, outcomes, and status updates for practice group leadership and Innovation stakeholders.
  • Coordinates cross-functional workstreams involving attorneys, paralegals, business professionals, and other firm resources.
  • Communicates with attorneys, administrators, paralegals, and staff regarding practice efficiency, technology, client solutions, and related initiatives.
Technology Integration and Generative AI
  • Supports the adoption and integration of legal technology, including generative AI, within assigned practice groups.
  • Identifies, develops, and promotes practical AI and legal technology use cases that align with attorney workflows and firm priorities.
  • Partners with attorneys, practice group leadership, and Innovation stakeholders to pilot, evaluate, and scale technology-enabled solutions.
  • Gathers attorney feedback, monitors usage trends, and recommends training, reinforcement, or workflow improvements to increase adoption.
  • Provides one-on-one support, coaching, troubleshooting, and guidance to attorneys using generative AI and other legal technology tools.
  • Helps embed new tools and best practices into daily legal practice through change management, communication, and practical enablement.
Knowledge Management
  • Works with practice groups and client teams to identify gaps in workflows, resources, and knowledge assets.
  • Helps maintain current, consistent, and accessible practice resources that reflect group standards and support efficient service delivery.
  • Supports the firm’s data and knowledge management strategy by monitoring resource usage, capturing experience data, and improving access to relevant content.
  • Collaborates with Research and Information and other firm teams to integrate useful practice content into legal workflows.
Training and Enablement
  • Educates attorneys and legal professionals on innovation, client-facing solutions, firm resources, legal technology, and improved service delivery practices.
  • Partners with the Innovation training team to develop and deliver onboarding, training, demonstrations, workshops, presentations, and written materials.
  • Creates practical training content that highlights real-world use cases relevant to the assigned practice group.
  • Serves as a day-to-day connection between practice group attorneys and the Innovation Team on legal technology, client solutions, and service delivery matters.
Collaboration and Business Development
  • Develops and maintains case studies, innovation narratives, portal content, and other resources that support practice group visibility and business development.
  • Assists with thought leadership, client seminars, RFP responses, pitches, and other efforts that highlight the firm’s innovation capabilities.
  • Participates in Innovation Team meetings, share best practices, surface emerging needs, and contribute to firmwide initiatives.
  • Supports additional Innovation projects and initiatives as needed.
Qualifications

  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal, technical, and business concepts to diverse audiences, including attorneys, clients, and firm leadership.
  • Familiarity with legal technology, emerging technologies, and generative AI, including their practical application in legal service delivery and client solutions.
  • Understanding of process improvement, project management, and legal service delivery principles, with the ability to identify opportunities to increase efficiency, adoption, and client value.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical, business-focused solutions in complex and evolving environments.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and collaborate across all levels of the organization, including attorneys, business professionals, clients, and external partners.
  • Ability to drive change, influence adoption, and support stakeholders through process, technology, and workflow transformations.

Education & Prior Experience
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited university or college and admission to practice in good standing in a US jurisdiction required
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience as an attorney in a large law firm
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects or process improvement initiatives, including coordinating workstreams across multiple stakeholders and delivering results on deadline
  • Experience supporting attorneys, clients, or internal stakeholders through change, training, or process improvement initiatives
Technology
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
  • Comfort using collaboration, knowledge management, and workflow tools such as SharePoint, HighQ, or similar platforms
  • Ability to quickly learn and effectively use new legal technology and AI-enabled tools
  • Familiarity with project management or task tracking tools such as Asana, Monday.com, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms is a plus
  • Familiarity with automation, reporting, or client-facing dashboard tools is a plus but not required
