Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking staff to evaluate inmate records and determine eligibility for assignments, custody changes, and programs. You will coordinate classification for a caseload of about 250 inmates and conduct regular reviews with inmates to document progress.

You will counsel inmates on institutional adjustment and respond to information requests from agency officials, using CRT and intranet systems to maintain accurate records.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and related experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for related experience.
• A bachelor’s degree is required by SCDC minimum standards; an associate’s degree with 1 year of related experience is acceptable.
• A high school diploma with 2 years of related admin/correctional experience is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates inmate records to determine eligibility for institutional assignments, custody changes, employment and treatment programs.
• Coordinates and implements an equitable classification system for a caseload of approximately 250 inmates.
• Conducts periodic reviews and interviews with inmates, discusses and records progress made.
• Counsels inmates as to their general institutional adjustment and/or related problems.
• Responds to inquiries for information on inmates by department officials and other agencies.
• Operates the CRT to ascertain information pertaining to inmates' social, criminal, educational, and family history.
• Operates the agency intranet and enters information related to inmate progress.
