Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a dedicated professional for inmate classification and case management within the Department of Corrections. The role involves evaluating inmate records, ensuring fair classification for a 250-inmate caseload, and conducting regular progress reviews.

You will interview inmates, provide guidance on adjustment, and respond to inquiries from officials and agencies. Training consists of four weeks of SCDC basic training after hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree may substitute for related experience.
• Associate’s degree plus 1 year admin/correctional experience accepted.
• High school diploma plus 2 years admin/correctional experience accepted.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate inmates records to determine eligibility for institutional assignments, custody changes, employment and treatment program.
• Coordinate and implement an equitable classification system for a caseload of ~250 inmates.
• Conduct periodic reviews and evaluate inmates progress.
• Interview inmates, discuss and record progress periodically.
• Counsel inmates regarding general institutional adjustment or related problems.
• Respond to inquiries from departmental officials and other agencies in writing or orally.
• Operate computer systems to ascertain information on inmates’ social, criminal, educational and family histories.
