Job summary

American Packaging Corporation (APC) is seeking a responsible Ink Department Shift Supervisor in DeForest, WI. You will lead the ink team during the 11pm–7am shift, ensure safety, productivity, and quality, and supply presses with materials required for production.

You will train staff, oversee color control procedures, manage handoffs between shifts, and actively participate in safety programs to uphold zero-accident goals. Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify skill gaps and mentor Ink Techs through coaching and troubleshooting.
• Resolve ink-related issues with input from shift supervisor and managers.

SUMMARY:

Provide effective crew leadership in the Ink department and serve as a positive role model in all aspects of the Ink dept – safety, productivity, efficiency, etc. Responsible for supplying the pressroom with all applied materials required for the manufacture of our product line.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Facilitate on the job training and instruction for team members on the correct use of tools and equipment to ensure proper safety and operating procedures are followed.
• Participate in training, embrace concepts of and actively practice the SPOT Safety Program fundamentals to aid American Packaging Corporation’s efforts to achieve a zero-accident rate.
• Complete the daily management system for the Ink department (GEMBA, etc)
• Address identified skill gaps and increase competency of all Ink Techs with training, guidance and leading trouble shooting activities.
• Analyze and resolve ink related issues utilizing the shift supervisor and department managers as necessary.
• Follow established color matching and color control procedures for the department.
• Adapt to staffing changes on shift due to call-ins by reassigning resources within department to ensure the shift meets production demands.
• Ensure a proper hand off to the following shift as well as clear communication of any issues, expected problems, or other pertinent information
• Provide coaching to correct any issues utilizing the appropriate resources as needed.
• Perform all necessary recording functions, labeling of each batch/drum, inventory ticket, batch ticket.
• Assist the shift supervisor as required.
• Blend or prepare, as required, all other applied materials for each press run, solvent, lacquers, adhesives.
• Maintain supply of materials throughout the press runs.
• Receiving of materials and rotating stock (includes forklift operations).
• Follow all department and plant safety procedures and be an active participant in our safety programs.
• Job requires a high level of self-motivation and advanced prioritization skills.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate/Bachelor’s degree (A. A./B.S.) or equivalent from two-year college/four-year college or technical school; with one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
