Job summary

Cooper Standard Automotive seeks an Injection Molding and Automation Engineer to lead special projects and provide engineering support across molding and automation operations. Travel may be required.

You'll drive tool and equipment design reviews, develop tooling, and mentor other mold and automation engineers while supporting APQP, PFMEA, and DFM considerations to minimize downtime and drive quality improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with 4+ years of injection molding/automation experience.
• Experience with automated work cells and mold design review.
• Proficient in MS Office; CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
• Strong analytical, communication and leadership skills.
• Willingness to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Identify and pursue enhancements in molding/automation workcells to improve cost, quality, safety, and ergonomics.
• Troubleshoot quality and processing issues on new tooling and equipment and implement corrective actions.
• Review and approve new mold tooling designs with suppliers and provide specifications.
• Run off new tooling and equipment at supplier, approve for acceptance and shipping to Cooper.
• Inspect incoming tooling to ensure it meets build specifications.
• Support APQP for new products, including PFMEA, process flows and BTO work instructions.
• Support production, resolving issues to minimize downtime.
• Contribute to product design during development to ensure DFM and customer requirements.
• Support Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
• Lead validation trials, feasibility studies, and design tests for processes and materials.
• Assist with development of specifications, new tools, processes and training procedures.
• Use root-cause analysis to address downtime and customer complaints and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Champion scrap reduction and apply lean manufacturing in the area.
• Work toward facility goals and measurables.
• Comply with ISO14001, ISO45001, IATF 16949 and safety/environment guidelines.
• Be on call and responsive to production support needs.
• May perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Position Summary:

Responsible for special projects and related engineering assistance in support of Injection Molding and Automated manufacturing operations. Leads design reviews, development and procurement of molding/automation equipment and tooling. Provides direction and development other mold and automation engineers. Some travel may be required.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Identify and pursue potential enhancements in new or existing molding/automation workcells that would result in cost savings, quality, safety, and ergonomic improvements. Troubleshoot quality and processing concerns on new tooling and equipment, then implement correction action.
• Reviewing and approving new mold tooling designs with suppliers and providing specifications to suppliers to meet our equipment and manufacturing requirements.
• Run off new tooling and equipment at supplier location, approving for acceptance and shipping to Cooper. Inspect and verify incoming tooling and equipment to ensure they meet original build specifications.
• Supports APQP development for new products, completing Claus and Enterproj tasks as assigned by programs. Including development of PFMEA’s, Process Flows and BTO Work Instructions.
• Must actively support production, resolving issues as they arise, to minimize downtime.
• Contribute to product design during the development stage to ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principals, customer functional, and aesthetic requirements are considered.
• Supports the Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
• Leads validation trials, feasibility studies, design tests for performance of processes and materials.
• Assists with development of specifications, new tools, processes and training procedures.
• Utilizes disciplined and proven problem-solving techniques to determine root cause analysis for equipment downtime and customer complaints and develops permanent corrective actions.
• Champions scrap reduction activities in assigned area of responsibility. Supports, contributes, anddemonstrates lean manufacturing principles in work area.
• Continuously works toward achievinggoals andmeasurables of the facility.
• Complies with policies, procedures, and facility standards in ISO14001, ISO45001, IATF 16949,including safety and environmental guidelines.
• Required to be on call and responsive to production support needs of the facility
• May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description

Education and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree inengineering discipline with minimum 4 years directly related experience in an injection molding manufacturing facility or substantial injection molding experience with proven capabilities. Minimum 2 years of experience in Automated work cell environment and mold design review and approvals.
• Above average mechanical aptitude
• MS Office Proficient
• CAD software experience (AutoCAD, Solidworks)
• Ability to analyze equipment and processes in an industrial environment
• Excellent communication and leadership skills
• Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary

• Must wear proper personal protection equipment while on manufacturing floor
• Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations when required
• Equipment used requires proper training on the potential for and avoidance of injury
