Job summary

Atomic Industries, based in Detroit, is building a high-volume, highly automated injection molding plant and seeks a manufacturing engineer to lead molding cell design, equipment commissioning, and line integration from day one.

You will own material flow, process integration, and throughput improvements, collaborating with tooling and automation teams to ensure uptime, quality, and fast iteration in a fast-moving startup environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in manufacturing engineering for injection molding operations, with experience launching automated production cells.
• Ownership of equipment specification, vendor interaction, and startup in production.
• Strong knowledge of mold tooling, press systems, cycle time optimization, and automation integration.
• Experience with high-volume or high-mix plastics manufacturing.
• Familiarity with robotics, vision inspection, thermal management, and downstream automation.
• Proficiency in root-cause analysis, process validation, and lean manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Engineer, design, and commission complete injection molding cells, including presses, EOAT, robotics, dryers, vision systems, material handling, and packaging equipment
• Collaborate with tooling and automation teams to ensure molds and fixtures support automation, reliability, and maintainability
• Specify, install, and validate manufacturing equipment including thermal, drying, and auxiliary automation
• Own cell layout, material flow, and process integration; optimize uptime, cycle time, and changeover
• Drive qualification activities including FAT/SAT, DOE, Cpk, GR&R, and root-cause analysis
• Integrate sensor feedback and process monitoring with automation and software teams
• Generate and maintain clear documentation including process instructions and validation protocols
• Work with quality/process technicians to establish control plans and quality checkpoints
