Job summary

Penn Medicine is seeking an Infusion Pharmacy Technician to support the preparation and delivery of sterile medications under supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The role emphasizes accuracy, safety, and compliance with USP/state regulations in a fast-paced infusion setting.

Work involves collaboration with ID pharmacists, nurses, and healthcare providers to meet patient care needs and uphold high standards of quality and infection control. Previous inpatient/oncology experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• CPhT certification is required.
• Registered PA state technician license required.
• Advanced CPhT preferred.
• Oncology pharmacy technician preferred.
• Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation (CSPT) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates patient care as part of a collaborative team with ID physicians, ID pharmacists and support personnel for IV antibiotics transition.
• Coordinates care with home infusion companies and facilities for patients on intravenous antimicrobials.
• Provides follow-up to team members regarding pharmaceutical needs and patient communication.
• Coordinates ID clinic appointments and communicates plans to outside facilities.

Summary

The Infusion Pharmacy Technician plays a critical role in supporting the preparation and delivery of sterile medications in a safe, accurate, and timely manner. Working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, this position is responsible for compounding sterile products, maintaining cleanroom and equipment standards, managing inventory for infusion therapies, and ensuring compliance with USP /, state regulations, and organizational policies. The technician collaborates with pharmacists, nurses, and healthcare providers to meet patient care needs while upholding the highest standards of quality, safety, and infection control. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates patient care as part of a collaborative team with infectious disease (ID) physicians, ID pharmacists and support personnel to service patients discharged on intravenous antibiotics as part of the Infectious Disease Transition Service.
• Works closely with ID pharmacists, ID physicians, and staff from various home infusion companies, rehabilitation centers, and skilled nursing facilities for the coordination of care for patients discharged on intravenous antimicrobials
• Provides follow-up to team members for communication to patients and family in terms of pharmaceutical need
• Communicates with internal clinic members to coordinate ID clinic appointment dates
• Works closely with ID providers and staff at home infusion companies and nursing facilities to coordinate integrated patient care between the ID clinic and outside facilities.
• Maintain communication with outside nursing facilities and home infusion companies to ensure appropriate laboratory parameters are being drawn at adequate intervals, and the results are being faxed to the ID clinic.
• Faxes all information required to outside facilities to ascertain appropriate antimicrobials are initiated
• Collaborates with ID pharmacists and ID physicians regarding discontinuation of IV antimicrobials and communicates the plan to the outside facility
• Key Team partners include: Clinical Pharmacists, Providers, Medical Assistants, ID Pharmacists, ID physicians, and clinical clerical staff

Credentials

• CPhT- Certified Pharmacy Tech (Required)
• Registered Technician (PA State Board of Pharmacy) (Required)
• Advanced CPhT preferred
• Certified Oncology Pharmacy Technician preferred
• Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation TecTech preferred

Education or Equivalent Experience

• H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
• Previous inpatient or oncology experience is strongly preferred.
