Overview

The Pharmacy Purchasing Technician performs technical support tasks to assist Staff Pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and delivery of medications and pharmaceutical supplies. Responsibilities include documenting patient profiles, maintaining stock levels, and delivering in-home IV infusion equipment and supplies, including enteral feeding supplies and equipment such as infusion pumps. Acts as a customer service field representative, troubleshooting pump issues, instructing patients on re-ordering supplies, and providing pharmacy services to patients of all ages.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service aligned with VNA and Covenant standards.
  • Prepare intravenous admixtures, piggybacks, irrigations, and TPN solutions under supervision.
  • Assist pharmacists with interpreting and entering physician orders.
  • Ensure medication accuracy and cleanliness of pharmacy areas.
  • Handle incoming calls, assist with Quality Assurance statistics, and perform routine maintenance of IV and enteral pumps.
  • Monitor inventory levels and re-order supplies as needed.
  • Market VNA Infusion Pharmacy positively and professionally.
  • Act as a field representative, troubleshooting pump issues and instructing patients.
  • Perform daily vehicle maintenance and deliver equipment and supplies.
  • Contribute to patient satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
  • High school Diploma or GED required.
  • Current Pharmacy Technician Certification from a recognized organization required; if not, must obtain within one year of hire.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of auto insurance required.
  • Preferred experience in retail, hospital, or home infusion pharmacy, including billing.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, systems conversion, and math proficiency.
  • Understanding of cleanroom procedures and aseptic techniques.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and effective communication skills.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Frequent standing, walking, lifting (0-25 lbs), and other physical activities. Ability to maintain punctual attendance as per applicable standards.
