Job summary

System Support is seeking an Oncology Infusion Nurse to join our cancer care team in Middletown, OH. This full-time role handles infusion of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and collaborates with clinicians to address the physical and psychosocial needs of patients and families.

Responsibilities include IV therapy, venipuncture, patient education, and adherence to ONS guidelines. Active Ohio RN license and CPR are required, with required certifications within specified timeframes.

Qualifications

  • Valid Ohio RN license.
  • Current CPR certification at time of hire.
  • ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy certificate or must obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy certificate or must obtain within 9 months of hire.
  • OCN certification or must obtain within 1 year of eligibility.
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum 1–3 years of job-related experience.
  • Preferred expertise in peripheral venipuncture and IV therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oncology infusion care across the lifespan with patient-centered focus.
  • Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, IV, subcutaneous and intramuscular therapies.
  • Collaborate with cancer care team to assess physical and psychosocial needs.
  • Follow ONS guidelines and manage adverse events related to chemotherapy (extravasations, infiltrations, spills).

Job description

Full time/72 hours per pay

8:00am-5:30pm, 8:30pm-6:00pm, 9:00am-6:30pm

As an Oncology Infusion Nurse, the oncology nurse collaborates with other cancer care team members to assess and respond to the full impact cancer has on the patient and family, including the physical symptoms, functional limitations, psychosocial disruptions, and knowledge needs associated with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Oncology nursing is patient-centered and may encompass individuals, families, groups, and communities. The oncology nurse is accountable for delivering care within the framework of the nursing process. The scope of oncology nursing practice will include health promotion and disease prevention strategies, treatment and related physical care of disease management, psychosocial support, and education for active participation in decision-making. The oncology nurse actively participates in professional role development activities, including quality assessment and improvement, practice evaluation, professional education, collegiality, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the review and clinical application of research findings. Integrates the Collaborative Model of Care with a strong focus on patient-centered care into daily practice. Provides care for patients across the life span in a manner sensitive to social, cultural diversity. Demonstrates competency in all aspects of chemotherapy administration, immunotherapy administration, IV therapy, subcutaneous and intramuscular injection administration. Knowledgeable and practices within the ONS guidelines during any adverse event while administering chemotherapy, i.e. extravasations, infiltrations or chemotherapy spill incidents

Education
  • Minimum Level of Education Required: Associate degree
  • Type of degree: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Area of study or major: Nursing
Licensure/Certification/Registration
  • Valid Ohio RN license
  • Current CPR certification required at the time of hire
  • ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Certificate or must obtain within 30 days of hire
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate or must obtain within 9 months of hire
  • OCN certification or must obtain within 1 year of eligibility (eligibility=2 years as RN and 2000 hours of adult oncology nursing practice)
  • ACLS required within 6 months of hire
