THE POSITION

The Technical Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering infrastructure, platform and system implementation projects within specified timelines, budget, and scope, with accountability for compliance, regulatory, and operational risk exposure. This role governs the phase-gate layer for projects that follow Waterfall or Hybrid delivery: formal milestone sign-off, change control, and RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) management.

The Technical Project Manager is skilled in working with cross-functional technical teams, managing resources, and ensuring project objectives are met, while making sure nothing ships, migrates, or changes production without the right risk, security, and compliance checks having already happened, not retrofitted afterward.

Responsible for the following areas:

Project Planning:
  • Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables, including compliance and risk requirements identified at intake rather than discovered mid-build.
  • Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets, sequencing infrastructure dependencies (environments, licensing, network, data migration) realistically.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies and maintain the project’s RAID log as the single source of truth.
  • Create and maintain project documentation, including decision logs and compliance gate evidence.
Resource Management:
  • Collaborate with IT Leadership to secure necessary resources.
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation meet project requirements, flagging capacity conflicts early rather than absorbing them silently.
Project Execution:
  • Monitor project progress and performance against the plan, including phase gate milestone status.
  • Identify and resolve issues, bottlenecks, and deviations from the plan; escalation through define changecontrol process.
  • Ensure adherence to project timelines and milestones, including architecture and compliance review checkpoints.
Stakeholder Communication:
  • Communicate project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders, delivery managers and sponsors.
  • Prepare and deliver regular project reports and presentations, translating technical/infrastructure risks into business understandable terms.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and address concerns, holding the line on process even when business pressure pushes to bypass governance.
Change Management:
  • Develop and execute change management plans when necessary, including formal change requests reviewed and approved per the projects governance model.
  • Facilitate the adoption of new processes, systems, or technologies.
Deployment Management:
  • Oversee the deployment of releases across environments (development, staging, production).
  • Coordinate deployment schedules and rollback plans specific to the project(s), ensuring every release has a tested fallback.
  • Monitor deployment progress and resolve issues as they arise for the project(s), documenting outcomes for audit and lessons learned purposes.
Budget and Cost Control:
  • Monitor project expenditures and manage the project budget; avoid hidden cost exposure.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements, including licensing and infrastructure consolidation.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation including change logs, RAID logs and sign-offs.
  • Prepare post-project reports, including lessons learned and recommendations for future projects.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
  • Focus on multiple team goals and strategies and meet critical deadlines.
  • Documents and analyze outcomes and processes and effectively communicates results for Development and Infrastructure teams to improve.
  • Probes to get to the heart of a problem and take action to achieve results.
  • Initiates advance planning that enables the department to quickly react to change.
  • Hold the line on governance and controls.
EDUCATION

The preferred candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field; or seven to ten years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
