Job summary

Qualifications

• Seven+ years in infrastructure, systems, or cloud operations, including two+ leading or mentoring others.
• Hands-on Azure: compute, networking, identity, RBAC, and cost management across multiple subscriptions.
• Strong SQL Server administration—backup/restore, high availability and disaster recovery, and reading execution plans.
• Windows Server, Active Directory and Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 tenant administration.
• PowerShell scripting with automation bias.
• Ownership of production incident response and communicating with non-technical stakeholders during outages.

Responsibilities

• Lead the infrastructure and IT function, including internal IT and endpoint support.
• Own Azure platform governance: subscriptions, management groups, networks, identity, tagging, and cost.
• Oversee database operations for backup/restore, HA/DR, and multi-tenant performance.
• Support security and compliance through patching, access reviews, and questionnaires.
• Ensure uptime and incident response across product lines and EDI, including after-hours rotations.

Director of Infrastructure & IT Houston, Texas Full Time Reports to the COO

The Role

We are hiring an Infrastructure & IT Manager to own the platform everything else runs on: our Azure environment, our SQL Server databases, our security posture, and our internal IT. The role is roughly 80 percent hands-on and 20 percent leadership. You will manage one cloud operations engineer today and build the function from there. Application architecture and product development belong to our development organization; this role owns the platform they build on.

• Microsoft Azure across multiple subscriptions — IaaS and PaaS, networking, RBAC, cost management
• Two product lines — FreshByte Desktop (Visual FoxPro) and FreshByte Online (modern web front end and REST API)
• EDI trading partner integrations on Azure Logic Apps Standard
• GitHub, Microsoft 365, and SendGrid

What You Will Own

• Team leadership. Lead the infrastructure and IT function, including internal IT and endpoint support.
• Azure platform. Subscription and management group structure, network architecture, identity, tagging, and cost.
• Database operations. Backup and verified restore, high availability and disaster recovery, performance under multi-tenant load, capacity.
• Security and compliance. Patch and vulnerability management, access reviews, and the security questionnaires our customers send us.
• Availability and incident command. Uptime across both product lines and EDI, incident response, and follow-through that produces actual fixes. Includes occasional after-hours and weekend response, shared with the team and our managed service partner.

First Year Priorities

• Azure subscription governance — structure, tagging, access, and cost allocation you can report on monthly
• Verified backup and restore testing on a defined cadence
• Operational ownership of the EDI platform, with monitoring and failure alerting
• A disaster recovery strategy that has been tested, not just written
• Deployment and environment standards our development partners actually follow

What You Bring

Required

• Seven or more years in infrastructure, systems, or cloud operations, including two or more leading or mentoring others
• Hands-on Azure: compute, networking, identity, RBAC, and cost management across more than one subscription
• Strong SQL Server administration — backup and restore, high availability and disaster recovery, and the ability to read an execution plan and act on it
• Windows Server, Active Directory and Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 tenant administration
• PowerShell and a bias toward automating repeat work
• Ownership of production incident response, including communicating with non-technical stakeholders during an outage

Preferred

• A software company hosting customer production data, rather than corporate IT only
• Infrastructure as code (Bicep or Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines
• SOC 2 preparation or comparable security framework work
• Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-500, or DP-300
