Job summary

NLACRC is seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Specialist to design, implement, secure, and support our organization's technology environment. You will work with IT staff and external partners to ensure a stable, high-performing infrastructure across on-premises and cloud platforms.

The role emphasizes Windows Server, AD, DNS/DHCP, 365, virtualization, and cloud services with HIPAA-compliant security and disaster recovery focus.

The Organization

North Los Angeles County Regional Center “NLACRC” is a private, non-profit agency that is contracted with the State of California, Department of Developmental Services, to provide services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. NLACRC is one of the largest regional centers in California and has proudly served the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and Antelope Valley since 1974. We serve individuals across the lifespan from infants and toddlers, school age children, transition-age youth, to adults and aging adults.

Supervision

Receives general supervision from the IT Manager and IT Director and exercises independent judgment in the performance of assigned responsibilities.

The Position and Job Summary

Responsible for building, monitoring, securing, and supporting the organization's IT infrastructure. Works closely with IT team members and external partners to maintain a stable, secure, and high-performing technology environment.

  • Design, implement, maintain, and support the organization's IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, virtualization, networking, and cloud services.
  • Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, and capacity to ensure reliable healthcare operations and minimal downtime.
  • Manage and maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and Microsoft 365 services.
  • Administer virtualization platforms such as VMware or Hyper‑V to support critical applications.
  • Maintain network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, wireless networks, and VPN connectivity.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare security and privacy requirements, including HIPAA and organizational cybersecurity policies.
  • Implement and support security solutions such as endpoint protection, multi‑factor authentication (MFA), vulnerability management, and security monitoring tools.
  • Manage backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions to ensure data protection and operational resilience.
  • Support company‑critical applications by maintaining underlying infrastructure and connectivity.
  • Perform system upgrades, patches, and maintenance activities with minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Monitor infrastructure logs, alerts, and system health, proactively identifying and resolving issues.
  • Collaborate with vendors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to implement new technologies and infrastructure enhancements.
  • Manage and support cloud infrastructure, including Microsoft Azure, Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation efforts to maintain a secure infrastructure.
  • Support cybersecurity initiatives including endpoint detection and response (EDR), security information and event management (SIEM), and incident response activities.
  • Develop and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure operational resilience.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement infrastructure technologies that improve performance, security, and scalability.
  • Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and cybersecurity frameworks applicable to organizational operations.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure documentation, network diagrams, system configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem management activities.
  • Support cloud‑based technologies including Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and other healthcare‑related SaaS platforms.
  • Assist with IT projects involving infrastructure modernization, cybersecurity initiatives, cloud migrations, and technology deployments.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to IT support staff and other technology team members.
  • Participate in after‑hours support, maintenance windows, and on‑call rotations as required.
  • Consistently using your own discretion to make decisions, evaluate situations, and choose how to act without needing detailed supervision or following fixed rules.
  • Primary duty consists of performing non‑manual work directly general business operations of the organization, requiring the regular exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance

EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES:

KNOWLEDGE
  • Experience building, configuring, upgrading, maintaining, and supporting enterprise server environments.
  • Proven experience implementing and maintaining secure IT environments that meet regulatory and compliance requirements, including identifying security vulnerabilities, remediating configuration issues, and responding to security incidents.
  • Experience installing, configuring, upgrading, and supporting Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft server technologies, administration tools, services, and protocols.
  • Strong understanding of the interdependencies among servers, networks, security systems, storage, and business applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across multiple infrastructure platforms and environments.
  • Experience performing infrastructure security functions, including system monitoring, patch management, vulnerability remediation, backup administration, and disaster recovery activities.
  • Experience administering Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Intune, and cloud‑based infrastructure services.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks such as HIPAA, NIST, CIS Controls, and security best practices.
  • Experience with identity and access management (IAM), privileged access management (PAM), and multi‑factor authentication (MFA).
  • Experience with endpoint security, vulnerability management, and security monitoring platforms.
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell.
  • Experience administering and supporting Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft 365, and related cloud services.
  • Experience with enterprise backup and recovery solutions, including virtual backup platforms such Rubrik.
  • Experience designing, implementing, or supporting co‑location (colo) data center environments is desirable.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and documentation skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four‑year college or university; or equivalent combination of IT education and experience preferred.
  • Experience administering servers/applications such as mail servers, security tools, virus/malware remediation, disaster recovery, and applications.
  • 7 to 10 years of related experience required.
  • Non‑profit experience helpful.
  • Microsoft Certifications preferred.
  • A valid California Driver’s License and transportation, or acceptable substitute, and minimum liability insurance required.

TRAVEL/HOURS

  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including scheduled evening maintenance windows, occasional weekends, and emergency response situations as needed to support critical business operations.
  • Must be able to travel to branch office locations to provide on‑site infrastructure support, maintenance, and project implementation as required.
  • Must participate in on‑call rotations and be available to respond to critical infrastructure outages, cyber‑security incidents, and emergency situations outside of normal business hours.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the following physical demands may vary depending on assigned duties.

Compensation

This is an exempt position. Regular Salary: $140,000 - $184,288

Base Pay Rate / Salary Range Information

The actual amount offered within the posted salary/pay rate range will depend on a variety of factors, including degree obtained/education, experience, skills and abilities, and other relevant job‑related factors. The lower end of salary range applies to candidates who meet minimum qualifications or have limited years of relevant experience; the higher end of range will apply to seasoned candidates with considerable years of direct relevant experience.
