Job summary

SoTalent in California is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer to support OT infrastructure within a GMP manufacturing environment. The role focuses on the infrastructure, administration, availability and technical support of manufacturing automation and QC systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide system administration, infrastructure design and support for MCS, DCS, PLCs and site QC systems.
• Support Process Automation Systems, Building Automation Systems (BAS) and related QC infra.
• Manage user administration, access management and system support activities.
• Perform backup, restore, archival and data retention for production automation and QC systems.
• Review audit trails and support patching, maintenance and compliance.
• Maintain firewalls, antivirus and network infrastructure for availability and security.
• Assist senior engineers with projects, vendor integrations, and custom manufacturing apps.
• Troubleshoot automation, infrastructure and QC issues; handle break-fix incidents.
• Perform root cause analysis and CAPA activities.
• Support testing, debugging, commissioning and startup of infrastructure.
• Provide after-hours support when required.
• Collaborate with project teams and external vendors to deliver compliant solutions.
• Contribute to requirements, design docs and engineering drawings.

About the Role

An Infrastructure Engineer is required to support OT infrastructure and Operations Technology within a GMP manufacturing environment. The role focuses on the infrastructure, administration, availability and technical support of manufacturing automation and Quality Control (QC) systems.

The position is suited to an IT infrastructure or network professional with experience supporting manufacturing sites, regulated environments, industrial automation or GMP operations, and an understanding of how IT and OT systems operate within a production environment.

The role works closely with manufacturing, engineering, process science, validation, quality assurance, vendors and senior automation engineers to maintain reliable systems and support infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide system administration, infrastructure design and technical support for Manufacturing Control Systems (MCS), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLCs and site QC systems.
• Support Process Automation Systems, Building Automation Systems (BAS) and other manufacturing and Quality Control infrastructure.
• Manage routine user administration, access management and system support activities.
• Perform and support backup, restore, archival and data retention activities for production automation and QC systems.
• Review audit trails and support system patching, maintenance and compliance activities.
• Maintain infrastructure components including firewalls, antivirus and network infrastructure to support system availability and security.
• Support senior and principal system engineers with infrastructure projects, vendor software integrations and custom applications used in manufacturing and QC operations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve automation, infrastructure and QC system issues, including break-fix incidents and unplanned events.
• Perform root cause analysis, technical investigations, CAPA activities and corrective action implementation.
• Support infrastructure testing, debugging, commissioning and startup activities.
• Provide technical support for manufacturing systems, PLCs, site QC applications and related software, including on-call and after-hours support when required.
• Work with project teams and external vendors to define and implement reliable, compliant and right-first-time solutions.
• Contribute to requirements, scope and design documentation, including technical requirements documents, design documents and engineering drawings.
• Evaluate manufacturing discrepancies and provide technical input into investigations, corrective action plans and additional authorized actions.
• Partner with manufacturing, engineering, process science, validation and Quality Assurance teams to maintain system reliability and operational continuity.

Requirements

• Experience in IT infrastructure, OT infrastructure, industrial IT, network engineering, systems administration or manufacturing technology.
• Experience working within a GMP, regulated manufacturing, pharmaceutical, biotechnology or similarly controlled environment.
• Practical understanding of manufacturing site operations and the relationship between IT infrastructure and OT/automation systems.
• Experience supporting infrastructure associated with DCS, MCS, PLC, BAS, QC or manufacturing control systems.
• Knowledge of network infrastructure, firewalls, antivirus, system administration, backup/restore and patch management.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse technical issues and identify cause-and-effect relationships.
• Ability to gather relevant information, identify key issues and develop practical technical solutions.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing operational requirements and deliver against deadlines.
• Comfortable working onsite in a manufacturing environment and providing on-call support when required.
