Job summary

North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation seeks an experienced IT infrastructure specialist to manage on-premises and Azure-based platforms, including Active Directory/Entra ID, VMware vCenter/ESX, Windows Server and Azure services. You will maintain servers, storage, backups and data center operations while supporting ServiceDesk and enforcing change control procedures.

Minimum five years in datacenter operations, a AS degree in CS (BS preferred), and strong communication and collaboration

• Combination of training and work experience may substitute for the educational requirements.

Responsibilities

• Implements and Supports Microsoft on-prem Active Directory, VMware vCenter/ESX, Windows Server, Entra ID, Microsoft 365 and Azure cloud networking and other data center technologies.
• Completes systems administration and maintenance (updates/security patching) within recognized best practices.
• Maintains servers, operating systems, storage systems, data backups, IT management systems and other related equipment or software.
• Configures computing platforms including Windows 11 and Office 365 using Microsoft Intune, some Linux experience is a plus.
• Provides monitoring and support for datacenter systems and applications.
• Provides support to the ServiceDesk for customer support services, including the use of ticketing, change management and other key customer support measures and metrics.
• Follows the established procedures for change control, root cause analysis, issue resolution, service ticket creation, assignment resolution and closure.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Summary Description

Acts as escalation point for endpoint support.

Academic and Trade Qualifications

Work Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of experience in datacenter operations, troubleshooting, and implementations required. Virtualization, storage and operating system experience is required. Job Knowledge

Extensive knowledge of Microsoft AD, VMware/virtualization, and storage and compute technologies (Pure, UCS, HP, etc), Azure infrastructure and networking, datacenter hardware, desktop and server operating systems, applications and operations. Sound knowledge of documentation processes, operational procedures, project planning and quality assurance techniques.

Abilities and Skills

An aptitude for communications and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships (internally and externally) is a must. Position should be a self-starter who is well organized and a team player, have excellent presentation and communications skills and be able to multi-task and work under established deadlines. Should be able to learn new technologies and apply knowledge to build repeatable processes.

Must be able to maintain internal relationships necessary to achieve the purpose of the position and the desired results. Work cooperatively with staff members of other divisions and key partners to resolve mutual operational problems and meet corporate policies, procedures and goals. May interact with vendors, consultants and contractors as necessary to accomplish assigned objectives.
