Leidos seeks an Optical Materials Scientist to drive the development of tunable optical metasurfaces for multi- and hyperspectral sensing on next-generation space missions.

The role focuses on optical simulation, nanofabrication, and laboratory experimentation, collaborating with senior engineers to mature emerging optical technologies for infrared sensing applications in defense space programs.

Responsibilities

• Design & Modeling: Lead full-wave electromagnetic modeling to identify, optimize, and evaluate tunable infrared metasurface filters based on phase change materials.
• Performance Simulation: Architect advanced models to analyze the impact of tunable filters on infrared sensor systems.
• Fabrication Planning: Research and establish viable methods to fabricate optimized optical designs.
• Experimental Validation: Create and execute laboratory characterization plans to validate modeled performance with real-world data.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with senior engineers and multidisciplinary teams to evaluate, test, and mature optical technologies.
• Data Analysis & Documentation: Analyze experimental data and document technical results to support IR&D milestones.
