The City of Huntington Beach is seeking an Information Technology Technician to join the Business Systems division of ITS. The role supports minicomputer systems, LAN/WAN, and related peripherals under close supervision and offers progression from entry to lead levels.

Information Technology Services Department
The Information Technology Services (ITS) Department provides essential internal services to all City departments through the integration of people, processes and technology to increase efficiencies and effectiveness, serving as the technology foundation that enables the City to function securely and reliably. We recognize the importance of partnering with City departments to develop technology solutions that are innovative, secure, reliable, cost effective and scalable. We believe in the concept of future proofing these solutions to ensure a sustainable working model that continues to deliver successful results. Information Services is organized into three divisions: Technology Engagement & Support, Business Applications and Infrastructure Systems. Additional responsibilities such as administration, cyber security, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and public safety are distributed equally throughout the department.
Under close supervision, the Information Technology Technician learns and performs a variety of entry and intermediate‑level technical duties in support of minicomputer systems, local and wide area networks, and associated peripheral equipment.
The Information Technology Technician series consists of Information Technology Technician, Senior Information Technology Technician, and Lead Information Technology Technician. While the work may be similar, the distinction amongst levels is determined according to the complexity of the work assigned, the range of supervision needed, and the expertise required to perform the work at the designated level.
Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform in the position is qualifying. A typical combination includes:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent certificate. College‑level coursework (minimum 30 semester units) in computer science or other related field preferred. Associate’s degree in computer science or other closely related field desirable.
Experience: One (1) year of experience working with computer hardware including desktops, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, networking equipment, printers, and configuration of said hardware and associated software.
License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Must be able to respond to emergency services call out.
Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
Employees regularly assigned/required to drive a city or personal vehicle in the course and scope of work shall be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull Notice program.
Public Employee Disaster Service Worker: In accordance with Government Code Section 3100, all Huntington Beach city employees are required to perform assigned disaster service worker duties in the event of an emergency or a disaster.
