About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Part-Time Event Technology Specialist to provide hands-on technical support for conferences, meetings, webinars, live productions, and special events in a fast-paced event environment.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in audio-visual technology, live events, technical production, help desk support, or event technology who enjoys working directly with people and solving technical issues in real time.
The Event Technology Specialist will assist with setting up, operating, monitoring, and troubleshooting audio-visual, video conferencing, presentation, and streaming technologies to help ensure seamless event experiences.
What You'll Do
- Set up, connect, configure, and test audio-visual equipment including microphones, speakers, projectors, displays, video conferencing systems, and lighting.
- Support virtual and hybrid meetings using platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Webex.
- Load, format, test, and troubleshoot presentations, videos, and other digital content.
- Perform pre-event technical checks to ensure equipment and systems are ready for use.
- Monitor audio, video, presentation, and streaming systems during live events.
- Operate technical equipment and provide real-time support to presenters, speakers, and event participants.
- Manage virtual event features including chat, audience polling, breakout rooms, and Q&A sessions.
- Troubleshoot technical issues during live events and quickly implement solutions to minimize disruptions.
- Assist with transporting, setting up, breaking down, cleaning, organizing, and storing event technology equipment.
- Maintain accurate inventory of cables, adapters, microphones, accessories, and other technology equipment.
- Report damaged or malfunctioning equipment and assist with repair and replacement processes.
- Provide professional, responsive customer service to event organizers, presenters, exhibitors, guests, and internal teams.
- Explain technical information clearly to users with varying levels of technical knowledge.
- Collaborate with event operations, technology teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to support event requirements.
- Maintain a calm and professional demeanor in high-pressure, fast-paced event environments.
- Follow established safety and operational procedures when handling technology equipment.
- Ensure equipment is installed and operated according to manufacturer specifications and venue requirements.
- Assist with the secure handling of technology assets and event-related data.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
What We're Looking For
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1–2 years of experience supporting audio-visual equipment, live events, technical production, help desk operations, or a related technology environment.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and remain calm under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred
- Associate degree, technical certification, or coursework in Information Technology, Audio-Visual Technology, Digital Media, Broadcasting, or a related field.
- Experience with event technology, live production, conferencing, or streaming.
- Internship, volunteer, educational, or student technology experience.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex, and other virtual meeting platforms.
- Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Apple Keynote.
Technical Skills
Candidates should have a basic understanding of:
- Audio-visual signal flow and connectivity
- HDMI, USB-C, DisplayPort, Ethernet, and XLR connections
- Microsoft Windows and Apple macOS
- Presentation and digital media technologies
- Virtual meeting and conferencing platforms
- Basic AV troubleshooting and equipment setup
This position involves working across a variety of professional event environments, including meeting rooms, conference facilities, theaters, offices, and live event production spaces.
The role requires the ability to:
- Lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, kneel, climb ladders, and move equipment as needed.
- Move between different event spaces and venues.
- Work flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on event requirements.
