Job description

The Office of the Inspector General is one of the best places to work in the Department of Justice and is one of the premier inspector general offices in federal government. We are seeking a highly-motivated professional employee with experience in providing superior customer service in support of our mission to promote integrity, efficiency, and accountability within the Department of Justice. You will work to gain practical work experience that augments your academic course of study.

Basic Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years of age. Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a Technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or university, graduate or professional school, at a qualifying educational institution on a half-time or full-time basis. Must be in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 or better (must provide a transcript and proof of enrollment/acceptance letter); these standards will be in effect for the duration of the internship. Must maintain enrollment/continue education throughout the duration of employment under the Pathways Program.

Minimum Qualifications

In addition to meeting the Basic Qualifications stated above, you must also meet the minimum qualifications for the appropriate grade level, or applicable general or specialized experience. To qualify for the GS-9 level, you must have two academic years of graduate level education, a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or one year of specialized experience at the GS-7 level or equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as progressively responsible work in multiple IT disciplines such as IT applications and programs, IT security, and IT Operations and customer service and programs office support work that indicates the ability to perform the duties of an Information Technology Intern.

Examples of specialized experience
  • Assisting with updating and maintaining, and organizing SharePoint sites and content, and resources to support organizational needs.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of an enterprise audiovisual (AV) environment fora new facility, including assisting with technology setup. documentation, testing, and coordination.
  • Assisting with project management activities, including tracking project documentation, and preparing status reports throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Providing general assistance with information technology and information systems projects, operations, and support activities.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
In addition, have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following five competencies:

  • Customer Service-Works with clients and customers (that is any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
