Job summary

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is seeking an entry-level Information Technology GIS Analyst I in Los Angeles, CA. The role supports GIS operations, data management, mapping, and technical support under supervision.

You will assist with GIS data maintenance, troubleshoot hardware/software issues, and create maps and reports to help users understand geographic information. The position offers a hybrid schedule and opportunities to participate in projects across GIS

Qualifications

  • A degree in a related field is defined as: GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or other related Information Technology degree.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technology and GIS support by troubleshooting hardware, software, GIS applications, and related technical issues; respond to customer questions and assist users in identifying practical solutions to technology and GIS-related needs.
  • Contribute to GIS and technology projects by participating as a member of project teams, assisting with tasks, coordinating activities, and gaining hands-on experience with GIS initiatives and technology solutions.
  • Maintains and enhances GIS data by entering, updating, organizing, validating, and processing spatial and attribute information to support accuracy and usability of GIS databases and applications.
  • Assists with GIS data processing and quality control by reviewing information for completeness and accuracy, identifying potential discrepancies, and supporting established procedures for maintaining reliable geographic data.
  • Performs research and related technical tasks to gather, organize, interpret, and present geographic and technology-related information.

JOB SUMMARY

The Information Technology GIS Analyst I is an entry-level position that supports the organization’s Geographic Information System (GIS) and information technology operations. Under established guidelines and close supervision, this position develops practical experience in GIS technology, spatial data management, mapping, technical support, and data analysis.

The Information Technology Analyst I will assist with maintaining accurate and reliable GIS information, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, responding to technical questions, and creating maps, reports, and other visual products that help users understand and utilize geographic information. The position may also contribute to project teams, gaining exposure to GIS applications, data processing workflows, and technology-driven solutions to organizational needs.

What You’ll Do

Schedule

Schedule: 44/36. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.

Hybrid

Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.A degree in a related field is defined as: GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or other related Information Technology degree.
