The Data Coordinating Center's IT group has an immediate need foran Information Systems Engineer. This position will report directlyto the IT Supervisor. The Information Systems Engineer is essentialin upholding and enhancing the technical framework of our researchdata center, which operates continuously to support criticalresearch activities. The role demands a professional with extensiveexperience in on-premises data center management, and a strongacumen in security protocols. The successful candidate will beproficient in creating and maintaining server environments and willvalue the autonomy of their role while appreciating the dynamics ofworking within a supportive and collaborative IT team. Responsibilities
  • Maintain data center hardware throughout its lifecycle,including installation, configuration, firmware updates,troubleshooting, repair coordination, and decommissioningactivities.
  • Administer and support virtualized environments, including hostsystems and hypervisor platforms, performing firmware management,capacity planning, performance tuning, routine maintenance,monitoring, troubleshooting, and hardware lifecycle support.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and support secure, reliable, andresilient system environments that meet business, operational, andcustomer requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system, server, and infrastructureissues, including conducting root cause analysis, identifyinglong-term solutions, and escalating complex problems asappropriate.
  • Perform maintenance, updates, and upgrades for servers,workstations/desktops, and business or specialized applications toensure reliable operation, optimal performance, and alignment withoperational needs.
  • Administer and support Active Directory, including user accountmanagement, group memberships, Group Policy, Group PolicyPreferences, and access control management.
  • Administer and support databases, web services, and applicationservices, including end-user support as needed.
  • Deploy, administer, and maintain security tools and solutions,including planning and executing rollouts in accordance withestablished standards and procedures.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and health,proactively identifying and resolving issues to minimize servicedisruptions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, procedures, andsystem inventories.
  • Participate in and support infrastructure projects, technologyinitiatives, and evolving departmental IT requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to teammembers as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned tosupport departmental and organizational objectives.

Information Systems EngineerDesign, develop,maintain, and support technical infrastructure that includesnetwork, hardware, database and/or system software components.Conduct analysis of business problems and lead the evaluation,development, and recommendation of specific technology products andplatforms to provide cost-effective solutions that meet businessand technology requirements. Research and design best fitinfrastructure, network, database, and/or security architectures.Guide configuration, debugging, and support for infrastructure andensure all quality and change control standards are met. Assistwith root cause investigations and provide recommendations forpreventative measures. Proactively address gaps with existingsupport processes, documentation, etc. and prioritizeaccordingly.

Information Systems Engineer, IIRequires moderateskill set and proficiency in discipline. Conducts work assignmentsof increasing complexity, under moderate supervision with somelatitude for independent judgment.

Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (orequivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.

This is a Developing-Level position in the General Professionaltrack.

Information Systems Engineer, IIIConsidered highlyskilled and proficient in discipline. Conducts complex, importantwork under minimal supervision and with wide latitude forindependent judgment.

Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (orequivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.

This is a Career-Level position in the General Professionaltrack.

Information Systems Engineer, IVRecognized assubject matter expert and advanced individual contributorprofessional. Requires specialized skill set. Conducts highlycomplex work, unsupervised and with extensive latitude forindependent judgment.

Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master's (orequivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.

This is an Advanced-Level position in the General Professionaltrack.

Minimum Qualifications

EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher educationcan be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience(Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related workexperience).Department may hire employee at one of thefollowing job levels:

Information Systems Engineer, II: Requires abachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (orequivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.

Information Systems Engineer, III: Requires abachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (orequivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.

Information Systems Engineer, IV: Requires abachelor's (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master's (orequivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience.

Preferences
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server and desktop operatingsystems.
  • Working knowledge of Windows server infrastructure, includingActive Directory, DNS, Group Policy, TCP/IP, SMTP, and generalnetworking concepts.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies and platforms suchas VMware, Hyper-V, and Remote Desktop Services.
  • Experience supporting and managing data center hardware,including servers, storage systems, networking equipment, andhardware lifecycle management.
  • Experience with AWS and other cloud platforms.
  • Knowledge of database concepts, administration, and management,including MSSQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.

  • Experience with enterprise backup and recovery solutions suchas Veeam, Backup Exec, or similar products.
  • Familiarity with ticketing, documentation, and collaborationtools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Experience with scripting, automation, and infrastructureautomation technologies such as PowerShell, Jenkins, GitLab,Terraform, and CloudFormation.
  • Experience with SharePoint administration and support.
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+,Security+, Microsoft, VMware, MCSE, CCNA, ITIL, or relatedcertifications are a plus.
