Information Systems and Security Engineer

Are you a seasoned IT professional with a passion for harnessing technology to drive meaningful change? At Advocates for Human Potential (AHP), we're on a mission to make a lasting impact through technology.

AHP influences change in health and business systems to support vulnerable populations—from creating policy to engaging in ground-level, hands-on work. We help organizations and individuals reach their full potential through professional consulting; research, evaluation, and data analytics; technical assistance and training; and virtual solutions, publications, and events.

Our areas of expertise include behavioral health, mental health policy and services, substance use disorders, workforce development, homelessness, housing and employment programs, trauma-informed care, criminal justice, women and children, veterans, health care reform, and population health management.

As the Information Systems and Security Engineer you will be pivotal in implementing and optimizing our cybersecurity operations. Your responsibilities will include managing compliance requirements and implementing technological controls to ensure the company remains compliant. You will also be involved in managing security alerts from various security platforms and taking guided action when incidents arise, along with interacting with and managing various vendors the company engages with. Your cybersecurity expertise, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail will be critical in improving the company's security posture as we continue to grow.

Responsibilities
  • Incident Response: Participate in Incident Response efforts, including preparation, detection, analysis, containment, eradication, recovery, and post-incident activities.
  • Security Tool Implementation: Deploy, configure, and maintain cybersecurity tools and technologies to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and other threats.
  • Security Monitoring: Monitor cybersecurity event logs to distinguish true positives and initiate appropriate responses to identified threats.
  • Identity Access Management (IAM): Manage and improve IAM processes and solutions to ensure secure and efficient access control across all systems and platforms.
  • Data Governance: Develop and enforce policies and procedures for data governance to ensure the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of critical data.
  • Data Loss Prevention (DLP): Implement and oversee DLP strategies and technologies to prevent unauthorized access to, or disclosure of, sensitive information.
  • Security Assessments and Compliance: Conduct regular security assessments and audits to ensure alignment with required security frameworks (e.g., CIS18, HITRUST, NIST) and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Implement Security Configurations: Implement controls and technologies to meet compliance requirements such as HIPPA, HITRUST, FISMA, etc.
  • Process and Workflow Documentation: Document processes and workflows related to cybersecurity practices, including security and identity validation for sensitive transactions.
  • Vendor Management: Oversee current vendor relationships and act as the primary point of contact for problems and meetings.

Qualifications

  • Excellent documentation and troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Active Directory environments.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Strong experience with routing and switching concepts.
  • Hands-on work attitude and customer service experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven experience in cybersecurity, particularly in areas of incident response, security tool implementation, security monitoring, IAM, data governance, DLP, and compliance.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks such as CIS18, HITRUST, and NIST.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate the security of systems and to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Ability to develop and maintain security documentation and procedures.
  • Knowledge of current cybersecurity trends, threats, and techniques for protecting against them.
  • Experience with cloud security best practices and technologies to protect critical infrastructure.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure to improve response times to threats.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or equivalent professional experience.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT and cybersecurity roles, with a strong focus on security and compliance.
