Job summary

VISIT FLORIDA, the state's official tourism marketing organization, seeks an Information Specialist to join our Visitor Services team at the I-10 Welcome Center in Pensacola.

In this 40-hour, nonexempt role, you will provide maps, brochures, and friendly assistance to visitors, support promotional events, and help maintain the Welcome Center while upholding Florida hospitality.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of related work experience.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work a front-line counter.
  • Team player with a flexible and positive attitude.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain national certification as a Florida Information Specialist.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs; stand and walk throughout shift.

Responsibilities

  • Provide information and exceptional customer service to Welcome Center visitors.
  • Greet visitors and provide refreshments at the citrus counter.
  • Assist visitors in the lobby and direct to brochures; maintain knowledge of Florida destinations and attractions.
  • Plan and implement promotional events with industry partners for themed months.
  • Maintain brochures and display racks; log utilization and order replacements.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the Welcome Center lobby and office area.

Job description

VISIT FLORIDA shares Florida sunshine with the world. As the states official tourism marketing organization, VISIT FLORIDA has been charged with selling an extraordinary vacation product since 1996. As part of our Visitor Services team, were seeking a customer service focused individual to fill our Information Specialist position.

This position is located at our I-10 Welcome Center in Pensacola, Florida.

Core Responsibilities
  • Provide information and exceptional customer service to visitors of the Welcome Center. Provide maps and mileage, as well as information about specific destinations, attractions, amenities, or activities.
  • Greet and provide refreshments to visitors at the citrus counter. Serve fresh Florida citrus juices as a welcome to the State of Florida and report daily usage.
  • Assist visitors in the lobby of the Center and the vending area. Direct visitors to brochures for certain destinations or activities. Maintain awareness of Florida destinations, activities, accommodations, and natural and cultural heritage assets. Record daily and weekly visitor counts.
  • Plan and implement promotional events and activities related to themed months, working with industry representatives to carry out programs and promotions.
  • Regularly communicate and maintain relationships with VISIT FLORIDA partners.
  • Maintain supplies of brochures in assigned display racks. Monitor inventories of backup brochures, log utilization of brochures, and order replacement supplies.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the VISIT FLORIDA Welcome Center lobby and office area. This will include mopping, sweeping, cleaning, emptying and taking out trash.

The Florida Welcome Centers' hours of operation are 8 am to 5 pm, seven days a week. This is a nonexempt 40 hour a week position with a weekend work rotation required. Additional scheduling specifics will be discussed during the interview process.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 + years of equivalent work experience
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work a front-line counter
  • Team player with a flexible and positive attitude
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain national certification as a Florida Information Specialist
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs. regularly. Ability to stand and walk throughout shift.
