An Information Services Specialist assists in the evaluation, development, maintenance, implementation and modification of host‑based, departmental processor, and personal computer operating systems, program product and supporting software; assists in planning and documenting facility and equipment‑related activities; coordinates computer equipment installations, removals, modifications, and maintenance; develops host‑based computer software or hardware procedures and assists in the analysis and resolution of network and hardware problems; performs analytic monitoring of computer systems in an operations center environment.
Applicants who lack six months or less of the required experience may file for this examination. However, they cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement has been met.
Some positions may require a valid California driver’s license. Candidates may not be eligible for appointment to these positions if their record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at‑fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation (such as DUI).
Examination Weight: Multiple‑Choice Test 100%. The examination will consist entirely of a weighted multiple‑choice test administered and proctored online. Competencies evaluated include Analytical Ability, Attention to Detail, Fact Finding, Customer Service, Teamwork, Follow Written Directions, and Job Knowledge covering operating system capabilities, computer hardware and software procedures, data backup, log monitoring, virus scanning, network technologies, cyber security, and related software. Test dates are anticipated between Monday, August 17, 2020 and Monday, August 24, 2020. Remote proctored and onsite options are available as needed.
