Job summary

Illinois library system is seeking a librarian to provide in-depth reference assistance, materials selection, and outreach services for adults. You will support planning and evaluating diverse services, assist with local history reference, and collaborate with other program staff to extend community access.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or eligibility for Librarian IV certificate in Indiana
• Experience in public or reference services preferred
• Interest and ability in working with the public
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
• Computer and internet literacy
• Flexibility in work schedule

Responsibilities

• In-depth reference assistance, materials selection, collection maintenance, programming, and outreach services.
• Assist the Adult Programmer and other librarians in planning, implementing, and evaluating diverse services for adults.
• Extend service to the community through outreach to senior centers and community organizations.
• Develop and maintain the collection through selection, receiving and weeding, and ILL operations; maintain curated displays.
• Answer informational questions in person or by telephone; assist patrons with locating information and materials; supervise Internet access and OPAC use.
• Provide Reader’s Advisory Service and collaborate with Adult Programmer, Youth Services Programmers, and Events Coordinator.
• Provide basic local history reference desk coverage as needed.
• Keep informed of library field developments through professional activities and meetings.
• Assume responsibility for location in absence of supervisor and perform opening/closing procedures.
• Perform other tasks assigned by the Division Head.

• Assist the Adult Programmer and other librarians in planning, implementing, and evaluating diverse services that fulfill the educational, recreational, and personal needs of adults.
• Extend service to the community through outreach including but not limited to senior centers and community organizations.
• Develop and maintain collection through selection, receiving and weeding materials, and ILL operations. Maintain curated displays.
• Answer informational and directional questions placed in person or by telephone. Assist patrons in locating information and materials. Schedule, monitor and assist Internet users. Assist patrons in use of computers, OPAC, and copiers. Provide Reader’s Advisory Service.
• Communicate and collaborate with Adult Programmer, Youth Services Programmers, and Events Coordinator when planning programs.
• Provide basic local history reference desk coverage as needed.
• Keep well informed of development in library field through reading and participation in professional activities and meetings.
• Assume responsibility for location in the absence of direct supervisor and senior librarian. Perform opening and closing procedures as scheduled.
• Perform other tasks assigned by the Division Head.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or eligibility for Librarian IV certificate in Indiana
