Job summary

The Department of Justice seeks an Information Security Specialist (GS-12/13) in Washington, DC to serve as the primary adviser on information security for CUI, NSI, and SCI.

You will certify NSI/SCI visitors, assist with courier authorizations, and help develop policies governing SCI protection; participate in relevant security briefings and document management for NSI/SCI programs. Applicants must meet time-in-grade requirements by the 09/04/2026 deadline.

Qualifications

  • GS-12: 1 year specialized experience equivalent to GS-11; certifying NSI/SCI visitors and clearances.
  • GS-12: assist with courier authorization and SCI protection policy development.
  • GS-13: create/update security regulations; brief SCI/SAP/NSI and manage SCI documents.

Job description

The OISSO serves as the primary point of contact and principal adviser to the DOJ on all matters concerning the management of information as a critical DOJ resource as it relates to the handling and protections of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), National Security Information (NSI), and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).

To qualify for the position of Information Security Specialist, at GS-0080-12/13, you must meet the specialized experience listed below.

Specialized Experience

For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as certifying and receiving National Security Information (NSI) and/or Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) visitors, clearances and/or accesses; preparing and approving courier authorization AND assisting with developing policies, procedures, or standards governing the protection of SCI.

For the GS-13

For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as creating and updating organizational security regulations, conducting Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), Special Access Program (SAP) and National Security Information (NSI) briefings; or providing guidance on the Department's Classified National Security Information (NSI) and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) programs, managing receipt and distribution of SCI documents.
